Research Points?
I finished the game last night and realised a little bit later "Huh? Wait what did research points actually do?". Do research points actually do anything? Or are they just tossed in for no reason?

Just a "bonus score" as far as I can tell. Migt also be some achievement for gathering research points. So yes, they don't do anything in gameplay terms. But doing research expeditons also give you decorum so.. still might be worth doing.

It will give you an extra vote of confidence in a particular ending, but it's in consequential if you managed to get the crew's loyalty on all high.

Ah that would be why I didn't see any result from it. A bit silly that's their only mention in the game given that you spend/sacrifice resources to get them.
