I use a wheel and can get to settings that way with no problems I havent tried a controller so feel free to ignore what I say below.
But I thought it was the 'menu' button (the one with 2 or 3 horizontal lines) that you use to open the settings on a controller? That's the button that it always shows on my game for settings.
Have you tried ignoring the first screen where you set options and continuing to a race as when you are there you can get to the settings using a different button (button Y in my game).
But no its not right to be crashing at all so make sure you dont go over your 2 hrs before you refund.
If you have Heat 4 some people have had success shifting their controller set ups from that game into Heat 5. Otherwise a patch should be coming 'soon' that may fix all these things.
aaaand i started installation before going to work and started it automaticaly, so i have basicaly 7 hours on it rn...
They might still give you a refund if you havent asked for a lot of them recently and you explain, I've seen others get refunds over 2 hrs. But it will probably get fixed next update.
