We did not give up, in fact we are actually working on an update which supports steamVR as we still see most of the issues are coming from wrongly using openXR vs SteamVR.
So hopefully soon this will have some more stability for everyone. That said, the button configuration as we stated is the correct one and that works on almost every other person's headset. We got thousands of players who played the game with index controllers and had no issues.
We are quite sure there is something off with the configuration on your end when this combo does not work, we just try to figure out how or what it could be. Most likely your controls are saved somewhere else and are not being cleared correctly by reinstalling or verifying your save files, which make them now map incorrectly to that the game expects to get. If you check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKRuJl-mvmU They show how to reset bindings for VRChat you can try to do the same but for Hubris perhaps this works for you?

Good to know you guys are still patching this game. I tried the above instructions and it did not work for me either. Joystick on left controller is completely functional in other games so it must have something to do with an incompatibility between the controller, steam, vive and Hubris. Willing to try any beta patch that you guys come up with as long as I don't loose my current progress. I am just climbing the Tera former and would not want to start over again.
This is an excellent VR game that I am enjoying immensely. It is my second favorite after NoMan’sSky!
There will be a beta branch coming live hopefully this evening with SteamVR support, perhaps this solves your input bindings.
Normally saves carry over, you can always just copy and paste your save data located in the local app data Hubris VR folder if you want to make sure nothing is lost.

Hi Redmiata, Good to hear you are able to progress, however we did not publish anything yet? Did you change to a beta branch and then started playing or what did you do to make the input bindings work?

The update today broke the ability to get to the menu. It was working with the beta before today's update but does not now. Additionally, there is a grey cloud around the eyepieces that was not there before. It doesn't obscure the whole sight but does narrow the field of view. It's a circle of grey around each lens now. Checked the headset with other games and it is only with Hubris and was not present before the update. PLEASE bring back the ability to use the menu! Thanks
Also, when I entered the tank with the 2 squid to retrieve the soldering gun: I entered and when I hit the button for my weapon once in the water it did not load the underwater gun but another one that was useless on the squid. After I died, I came back in and the underwater gun loaded properly. (One time, probably a blip)
Hija, answered this on another thread as well, can you let me know if you pressed both left and right joystick controllers for opening the menu? As just the left controller press made it that players accidentally opened the menu too often.
