Hubris
Simfan 2018 Jul 25, 2023 @ 6:39am
@Devs : DLSS did not make it into the Hubris version 2.0 in time !???
In the Release notes it is claimed that Hubris version 2 would have an Nvidia RTX DLSS option.

AFAIK this does not seem to be the case.

- Nowhere in the Hubris version 2 menus is there any option to (manually) select and/or disable DLSS.

- In all games (VR or not) that I know of DLSS requires file :
nvngx_dlss.dll
This file is not present in any of the Hubris (sub-)directories

- Is DLSS automatically used when an RTX card is found (unlikely) ?

- Is DLSS version 2 or version 3 supported (DLSS 3 only might explain RTX 3000 series cards do not show a DLSS option in any menu ?)

Please tell us how to select DLSS in Hubris version 2+

Thank you.

Hi Dlss is automatically enabled when we detect a rtx card.
Simfan 2018 Jul 25, 2023 @ 8:35am
Thank you Cyborn !
- do I have to ENABLE Anti-Aliasing in the menu to have DLSS enabled ?
- does enabling anti-aliasing / DLSS (DLAA?) improve visuals on an RTX card (1) -OR
as described in your Hubris version 2 notes - does it always decrease visual quality and should I leave anti-aliasing off. I tried both AA on and off but did not notice much of a difference.
Thanks for this greatly enhanced version 2.

Mine doesn't seem to be enabling.

That's because there is no DLSS. At least not in this Steam build of the game. The whole DLSS file is missing in the game directory.

I personally would like to have the option to enable or disable DLSS instead of beeing forced to use it.

It would be nice if the developer would respond to DLSS not being shown to be actually enabled. I don't see this option, even with a rtx4090 and the latest nvidia driver 536.67. Also, using a Quest Pro with Air Link and I have my OpenXR default set to the Oculus runtime. DLSS options all work well with other DLSS enabled apps like msfs.

Also, still not sure what the developer refers to when he says you can turn TAAU off? I don't see this option. Maybe it refers to one or two of the other graphics options?

One complaint I have is that when you are close to facing the sun there is a lot more glare. This is a bit annoying and turning Bloom on/off does not seem to make any difference.

The bullet tracers are a nice touch but I think they have a bit too much long trailing tails. I really like the new reload option. Much better than needing to hold the gun upwards, which often seemed to take different amount of time to fully reload.

As an aside, since this game is OpenXR compliant, you can use the OpenXR toolkit. I've tried it and it seems to work ok. Plus you can call up the FPS in order to help monitor your performance vs graphics settings.

Overall, a very nice update but I think I'll wait for a hotfix or two before enjoying a replay on this great game. Cheers.

we are investigating this issue right now, because we got plenty of reports that it is correctly working, we are trying to find out why and how it could not work on some devices or why some of the files are not correctly being sent over.

Hi all,

so we just found out something went wrong with the published build which disabled dlss, the incoming patch that will be here later today will address this.

There is an option in advanced graphics options to disable dlss if you would like to.

Kind regards,

Koen

Very nice! I already thought something like that might have happened.

A hotfix just released which should've addressed the issue. You can now find DLSS in the options under performance. Let us know if any other issues occur!

DLSS appeared in the settings. But it's just an on/off switch. Without the ability to select a preset (quality, balance, performance). What preset are you using in the game?

Also DLAA would be helpful. Any plans to add DLAA? As far as I know, if the game already has DLSS, then adding DLAA costs almost nothing in terms of complexity of the task.

I agree that it would be nice to have the usual DLSS Quality/Balanced/Performance/High Performance sub-settings, or to at least know what these currently are. In some games this is on a slider.

I don't think that DLAA (essentially DLSS without the image upscaling) is as good as DLSS. At least it doesn't seem useful in sims like msfs, for me anyway. I prefer to use DLSS but maybe more of a personal preference thing.

Edit; Just tried the new DLSS and this really makes the game play and look fantastic. I'd guestimate that the DLSS is in Quality mode because the clarity is sooo good. With my rtx4090 I can add some extra super sampling but I don't think that this is necessary.

Tom IMHO extra Super Sampling (with your RTX 4090) is always a plus. I have seen pics of airplane instruments at 1x up to 4x supersampling and each iteration had noticeable improvements. Some games such as Kayak VR allow for something like 'pixel density' that *would* allow me to further push my Godlike settings 3120x3120 PICO 4, if only I had an ... RTX4090 !
People in the Steam Kayak VR forum reported that increasing that 'Pixel Density' option does make a difference and I tried it at 200 %, but my FPS dropped below playable at highest settings.
:-)

Ya, @SimFan 2018 adding a little SS on top of DLSS with my flight sim msfs further improves the clarity, esp. in the cockpit. I use 1.4x SS with my Quest Pro and use 350% SteamVR visuals with my Vive Pro 1. In both cases I them use DLSS/Balanced and this gives me really nice smooth, stutter free performance.

With Hubris I'm finding adding 1.2x SS on top of DLSS with my QPro also helps a little but much higher I start to get stutters. Likewise with my VP1 200% visuals on top of DLSS helps a bit but much higher I start to get stutters. TBH, even without any SS Hubris with DLSS looks better than ever!

When developers utilise DLSS correctly, like it seems they have, Nvidia also seems to be improving DLSS on all rtx3000/4000 series gpu's with every update.

What !??? You have a 4090, the fastest consumer GFX card in the world, and you can still get stuttering ???
Anyway, I would love to drop a 4090 in my rig.
18 months ago I paid 1200 EURO / 1250 USD for an RTX 3070. For that same price I could, today, easily buy an RTX 4080 !

@Simfan 2018 even some games/sims can still bring a rtx4090 to its knees, lol! Actually, your rtx3070 is still a very good card and DLSS will help you get the best out of it imho. Nvidia driver updates seem to improve DLSS all the time, esp. with rtx3000/4000 gpu's. So, maybe worth trying the latest 536.67 because it's working very well, for me anyway.

Although maybe not always necessary, I use DDU in safe mode (google how to do this) to properly uninstall previous drivers and to also stop win10/11 from auto updating gpu drivers. I also use DDU if I need to rollback drivers (haven't needed to do that for a while, touch wood).

Prices in Australia for GPU's have improved a bit. Today you can buy a new rtx4090 for a little less than what I paid for my rtx3090 +3.5 years ago, lol! Maybe because currently there isn't as much crypto mining demand.
