What happened with Gollum is the opposite. It left people confused, or upset, or both. Things are not looking good for the developer right now.
The same thing happened when Dark Alliance released last year: published by Wizards of the Coast using the D&D and Forgotten Realms and featuring Drizzt, arguably one of the most well-known characters in D&D, it should have been a hit. But the game was buggy with boring gameplay and stale mechanics and an outdated design. It also had its release date adjusted to coincide with other WotC products.
Gollum looks like a bad game to most people. If you want to give it a chance or think it seems interesting that's fine, but you're in the minority.
As a gamer, why wouldn't he? I think it will flop also.
But the mechanics of this game? I mean stealth is the lamest ♥♥♥♥. And Gollum can't fight. Unless it's drowning his friend in the lake. Do we get to do that? That would be fun. Maybe if the game was talking to hobbits with dialog choices, stealing from them and playing tricks and drowning his friend in the lake, then the game would be good.
You don't have to be a professional chef in order to know when something tastes like ♥♥♥♥.
Just because I you don't like a meal from the menu it doeasn't automatically mean that everyone aelse has to dislike it als well.
