I am not trying to say the GNUGo plays perfect by any means. It will make mistakes, as it's a much lower rank. It may ignore a threat that KataGo would have responded to, and it will not always play the biggest moves. KataGo in this situation is the model for perfect play and there's a large gap between it's skill level and GNUGo's skill level.
My suggestion would be to go back and review your match to see what went wrong and where it happened. This can be done in the campaign mode by clicking the review button, or in quick match by saving the match record (top right disk icon) and going to saved matches within quick play. Once in review, you can use the analysis features at the top right to see what alternate moves and variations would be possible, as well as see the estimated win rate and score change move to move with the graphs. The next release will also be improving the review functionality, allowing you to play out and test your own variations as well as some other new features.
