Can't find fish to harpoon
the only fish I could find to harpoon was during the tutorial since then even when buying tips and going to the location I have not been able to find any fish, and since I can't afford to hire a crew member I can't do deep line fishing either is this a bug or am I just very unlucky at finding fish?

So yeah finding fish. I caught ten on the tutorial which took a while as you have to wait for them to close move the boat etc. If the fish are far away the chance of a hit is very low and then the time taken to real them in is terribly large if realistic. I went searching for more and as other said just went back to the starting spot. The numbers were way down (fair) but chasing them with the boat then running out for one shot before they disappeared again, move the boat again etc. Yeah its not fun. So currently have deep line set up and am looking for fish ha. Yes have upgraded sonar and I can find line fish so far but not deep fish. Guess have to go to deeper water.

So yeah started a new game, did the tutorial mission again sold the fish and then went back to there again and was able to catch swordfish again, and was able to go back again another day too, now I have enough to do deepline fishing which is far easier and more profitable, so I think there must have been some sort of bug before that stopped the fish spawning on the surface properly but starting a new game fixed it?

I found them no problem. The problem is they take out way more line then you can reel in. I just stuck third one and i watch as they swim off each run further and further until you cant even see if they are running or not and they break off. The whole process is jacked. The throwing just randomly throws harpoon in a 10ft radius even with full aim bar. I can't grasp that this cleared testing as: 1) Working properly 2) Fun.
Update: The only way ive found to get one is to literally stick them right under the sprit and just hold E. A workaround but its all still broken.

keep reeling in even if they pull.
its like sportsfishing where you fight them.
Keep the line yellow, stop and go reeling to keep it yellow= they dont run off with line that much.
if the line goes grey= you give them to much free space
red= you reel to much
yellow all the time= sweet spot

They also fight in waves. There is a fight where it tries to run while you pull and the line get strained while you pull, pull until Reddish-orange and let go, wait until yellow and pull again.

Then comes a moment when you can reel as much you want for a while and then another fight again.

I wish there were more randomness in this, that some fish would fight longer and some shorter. And have some longer or shorter intervals between the fight. Right now it feels very much the same each time.

I commented on a youtube video about it. For realism they could add search planes to the game. Most harpoon fisherman (tuna around here) hire spotter planes to fly around and find the fish. Much faster than the usual 'old school' method of riding around in a mast all day looking for them. Of course you can still find them that way as they can come up at any time and run. But having a plane increases the odds exponentially.

I had this happen too, Don't let your boat move while your harpooning, if the fish gets behind the boat, you'll reel slower than your ship is moving so your move further from the fish while reeling

That is a great idea, but if added they could keep it slightly difficult wit the fact that the spot plane might not find anything, It's a risk/gamble if they find fish for you or not.

Someones just mentioned deep lining after the tutorial i found this way real easy to make lots of in game money by deep lining for swordfish and Tuna after the tutorial

In previous game i basicly did all my fishing long line because i found that the most reliable fishing method.
I am trying new things here and seeing how they changed netting, i prolly will try that this time.
I hated that wasd-minigame with a passion
