Not running well didn't stop Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 from releasing their VR support and it's possible for a game to be enjoyable even if it's not meeting that 90Hz baseline all the time even though obviously preferable for it to be.
Unreal engine also supports DLSS 2.1 for VR so maybe that could help. Just recently saw an indie dev add support for it to their game.
I have tried a tiny sailboat simulator in VR in bad seas, was pretty awesome and relaxing at the same time.
My dad, a hardy sailor for 50 years got motion sickness from playing that
It just adds to the realism
Personally I wouldn't mind playing it in VR despite it not being perfect and buggy, but I'd expect most players would just complain as usual while they vomit all over their rooms hehe
