Fishing: North Atlantic

Sharks, whales, and dolphins.
What is the purpose, or are they just for visual elements? I keep seeing them, and they get like a ghost marker on the map. However, I have not noticed anything they effect. Whats up with them?

Well I don't know for sure, but Whales could flip a small boat or damage it. I heard also if Trawling you could get one in your net. Sharks can be hooked on Deepline or Longline so I read. Dolphins I'm not sure, but may indicate fish nearby, like the seagulls, as indicators for shoals of fish.

I have noticed with Whales that there is usually Redfish nearby, as they both eat Krill.

Yes just seen the dolphins again today in several pods, and noticed the Tuna was very abundant in the same area. It's early for tuna atm in my season late April early May, but it did not stop me getting a a few tons of them. The payoff was real good too $60+ a kilo. The spot was about 1.5 Nm SSE of Seal Island.

P.S. There was also Mackerel in the same area, so either the dolphins and/or the Tuna are feeding on them.

I think irl Both feed on them as do a lot of other fish.

I don't understand why there is only 1 way of fishing for the Mackerel in this game because irl they can be caught a number of ways and are the easiest fish to catch with a line hook and tinfoil :)

It was in another thread that Woober said Mackerel will be able to be caught by any other net fishing boat in the next big patch, scheduled for Mid September. I will look for the post.
