It seem to struggle to load... something. The game stops regularily. If it's just for half a second, up to maybe 2-3 seconds, it seem to be able to keep going. (Depending on the Rendering API used)
But... what I have played of it makes me think that there is a good game there... If they can solve whatever issue is causing this (for what looks to be a lot of people).
I'm a bit worried when I read posts from back in may that seemed to have the same issue.
Is the game very bad ? No, clearly not.
I'm not sure what were their objectives, but I feel like it fails as a loot dungeon-crawler.
The game is quite repetitive, but like in a lot of games, it's supposed to be alleviated by the challenge, and the loot-system.
But from my experience (20+ hours now), you don't get rewarded at all for the challenge, you progress much faster doing easy -and boring- missions than taking any risk.
The loot progression felt broken for me, between the shop, characters story rewards, and Blightrifts, you're jumping very quickly to legendary items once you understand the basics.
Still I find the game fun, because I DO like the gameplay and the difficulty.
Since the 1.0 release some players are experiencing crashes, and they are bad reviewing the game because of that...
To be fair. A game that crashes all the time is worth being pointed out. I hope they fix it, and people will update their recomendation to reflect the state of the game.
I would love Steam to have a simple button "Game is stable for me" and "Game is unstable" instead of using reviews as tech support.
I know it's always like that so there's no use complaining, but just look at the latest negative reviews, 2 because of a lack of offline play, and nearly all others have no explanation except "game crashes" (even a russian with 60 hrs of gameplay! xD), it's a little sad ^^"
100% Agree with giving negative reviews for terrible game performance. Especially one that was in EA for over a year and still decided to go live with the known problems. If you don't like negative reviews then don't treat your customers like a bunch of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with a nigh unplayable product.
Now, I haven't played 1.0, because I don't want to play with bots. I have played with bots before and I like the game way more with actual players. Either way, 1.0 apparently brought a bunch of crash and bugs with it which seems like a dejavu to me.
Just take a look at the steamcharts for this game yourself: https://steamcharts.com/app/1263070
There's a reason the stats are like the way they are and it's not just by chance. It's sad man, I actually really liked the idea of this game, but I don't think the devs have enough tools to make this game the way it could bloom. It feels very one-sided and repetitive and although there are a lot of items, the customization doesn't feel very prominent.
For me Blightbound is not in the same category as D&D and Gauntlet, it's a loot dungeon-crawler: you finish a dungeon, you get loot and things to get stronger, which helps you to tackle higher difficulties.
And in 2D with local multiplayer, it's rare.
I have explained my trouble with the equipment progression in a feedback thread, I could add many things I don't understand (for example you have to pick a mission based on 1. the difficulty, 2. the bounties you can complete, 3. the personal story of your character, I don't see players progressing much in multiplayer where you can't chose the mission), I don't pretend the game deserve a super positive rating or anything, it's not the case.
Yeah, I like the ideas of the game, but I don't think they were correctly implemented.
As I said earlier I do like the gameplay, a little messy sometimes (health bar not always visible and all), as long as it's a challenging difficulty.
Thank you for the kind words!
As a studio, we're not at all happy with the stability of the release build and how many bugs and crashes that seemed to have slipped through QA. We have been working hard to rectify this and we aim to push a patch live on all platforms before the end of the week that will hopefully address the most prominent issues, as well as fix, improve, and optimise some smaller issues.
