Is this game actually scary?
Game looks solid but I cant see how it would be scary, even in a RE1 kind of way.

Its fairly scary, though after a few hours your opinion may change, still its an interesting game and story, highly recommend it as for 20 dollars this game is amazing.

If you've played old survival horror games, especially Silent Hill, you know exactly what you're in for. There aren't really jumpscares, more of an eerie, oppressive atmosphere that builds a sense of dread and loneliness.
So far I don't the game is actually scary, but that is okay! It's got a very good horror mood and vibe to it. Everything else about the game with its messed up setting and the overall gameplay I do think is suspenseful I think is excellent.
I personally didn't find the game really scary which I actually welcomed.
It has some very stressful moments and in some situations it gets somewhat scary, but its not as bad as the RE or Silent Hill games.
And there are no jump scares (thank god)

Idk I think the first half of the game isn't scary at all really but in the latter half things become very unsettling, and the game definitely has a few "I REALLY don't want to go in there but I know I have to" moments and it does a good job at making you feel kinda comfortable before catching you off guard

My friend couldn't play Dead Space or Alien Isolation, literally. I enjoyed both of them to the smallest details, completed numerous times, think I am still on leaderboards for A: Iso. So which type of personality are you mostly determines the effect, imho.

Some games are scary because of what is shown, others because of what is NOT shown. Basically psychological aspect of it. For me, the scary part is what is happening in the story, what I cannot comprehend, what is in the background, not what I see on the screen. Because I can deal with the enemies, yet I cannot change the environment.

Though I have to admit that I had a few sudden jolts when combat music started to play and some enemy lunged at me in the dark rooms. That was refreshing.

To find some middle ground I think that the atmosphere could scare anyone who digs it; in an unsettling, ominous, foreboding way. Someone who is easily disgusted or disturbed by body horror imagery could be scared as well. And that starts to weight on you, in a positive way, because it's a fantastic experience within a finely crafted universe.

Scary is pretty subjective, someone with less familiarity with horror games would probably be "scared" but it always depends on the person.

I'm more at the point of like o ♥♥♥♥ o ♥♥♥♥ o ♥♥♥♥ responding to the threats on screen.

Also I find my self laughing at some particular points of horror, I have no actually reason to believe this but every time I go to save the game I imagine the computer is screaming at me when the monitor flashes red and it's amusing to me personally.

What really sells it more me is the unfamiliarity of the setting, characters, what the threats are.

I really like Resident Evil, Control(has a lot of Horror elements), Them & Us; Silent Hill and Evil Within(found it kind of dull) not so much, I wouldn't go to a house of horror amusement park attraction.

I'm really enjoying Signalis a lot

I agree with this a lot

Wasn't scary for me at all but the story and realization what is/was going on really hit it.

Not scary as in monster jumping out of a closet, but scary in the sense it makes you feel uncomfortable and vulnarable.
If there is one thing I will give this game in spades, it is that it always manages to make me feel like I am playing something that I shouldn't be playing as if it is cursed or something. The vibe of the game is just...Wrong in a very good way.

Haha well put! That is like a guilty pleasure, something of occult.

Rephrasing one popular line - Just as I thought I was out. It pulled me back in.

In my opinion its better than the standard "scary" that a lot of modern games like to do. Too many games rely on jump scares, which when you boil it down is just an easily produced automatic response that is well understood by just about anyone.

No, this game tries to actually build and sustain a mood, but that mood isn't trying to give you a heart attack. It's not trying to oogabooga you. It knows what it wants to be and is confident in doing it. And it will take its time.

I recommend playing with a headset if you can. The sound design really helps.

This game is quite scary, yes. Guns are loud, monsters are menacing, the atmosphere is well done.
The game is scary, And there is no scripted jumpscares...
