Difference between the Yellow and the Red triangles in Diagnostics?

I was wondering if anyone has worked out what determines if you receive a yellow triangle or a red triangle?

I've been trying to work out exactly what causes the change in colour but with little luck. I'm aware that the triangles appear to give you damage resistance up to a point. I also tested the theory that the red triangles carry over to a new game (they don't from what I can gather.).

In my Promise game (first run), I ended up with five yellow triangles. In my Artifact/Leave run, I somehow managed to end up with a red triangle and that seemed to set the rest of them (I deliberately died sixteen times because I wanted to see if there's some impact/effect on the ending with the keys.).

My only thought is that it might be related to when you receive your first death? I honestly can't believe it's simply a defence buff given everything else in the game.

From what I have heard its related more to what difficulty you put it on than anything else; Red being survival mode..although I haven't tested it yet.

So I can confirm it's not that because in both of those instances I mentioned I was playing Normal mode.

It'd be cool if someone did some testing on it. As it is from my own Survival mode playthrough experience, I died three times, first two were yellow triangles, then the third death it became two orange triangles and one red triangle. I haven't even seen anyone mention orange triangles lol

Never saw those either, that's interesting

Do your remember how you died in each instances ?

I know on my survival run every death logged as a red triangle

First two deaths was from contact damage with Mynah. I was trying to see if the Thermite trick worked on Mynah on Survival, but I couldn't get it to work after like thirty tries, and a couple of times I didn't pause in time before contact damage could kill me.

Third death was to a Eule, I was going to grab the nitro rounds in the room next to the safe room after the Nightmare cage monster boss fight, and I got bopped while going for them.

from what I've heard it has to do with the amount of times you died, there seems to be an achievement related to it as well but don't quote me on that
