Is this broken or intentional?
Contact damage.

Really frustrating when bumping into an enemy counts as damage.

Ammo conservation is impossible if I can't maneuver around enemies. I'm at Act 3 with hardly anything on "Survival" mode and that's with avoiding enemies except in emergencies.

Please fix. And if was intentional, it's a pretty lame mechanic for very obvious reasons. This is actually one thing that deserves some negative trash talk.

Side note: Really great game. This will be one of the few games out of my library that I'll actually finish. Noice.

Some rooms like a particular corridor near a save room on act 3 I just cleared with a new burst-fire weapon because no way to dodge them properly. You can manage most rooms with just running and health items are in abundance.

I got through a lot of the game with minimal stun baton/fire/etc. I just wish I used the flaregun more. Survival difficulty too.

I was just about to make this exact thread but I'll bump this instead, I ran past one of the larger sword holders and they swung AFTER I took damage. Pressing into enemies while running past their attack was a big part of the original RE's from what I've seen and what little I played so it makes me wonder why have it? It feels unfair.

You seem to take less damage if an enemy runs into you or you them than if they get attacks off on you, so it can potentially be used to your benefit.

i dont think theres any beneft from it. you still get animation locked by receiving damage and can still be hit from surrounding infected.

it doesnt bother me as much since ive adapted around it and honestly this game isnt hard, even on Survival. but its such a ♥♥♥♥ mechanic because gameplay-wise, you as the player, is getting punished for no reason at all.

i just figured alot of players would get irk'd by this. its not very logical unless we see the infected wearing something that actually causes damage, like a spiky outfit or something. i didnt see anything within the lore so far that justifies it unless i missed it.

Might be something to do with how glitchy creatures are and contacting with the rot damages you during the first boss fight.

I also heavily dislike contact damage. But apparently you can push enemies away even without a weapon equipped by using attack ready + attack. Don't know if works on all enemies.

I don't know if you mean you have nothing right at chapter 3 or ways into it. Cause at the start i have 13 pistol, 13 shotgun, 4 rifle, 5 flare = 3 grenade, 4 revolver and 7 thermite. But i avoided most fights. So far i fell there was more health itmes than ammo. I still have 10 patches and 3 autoinjector.

Weirdly enough i feel that Bosses take to much ammo or there is a hidden wait and they will die mechanic. Cause most of my ammo went into bosses and i felt like nothing will be left if i wasted more on regular enemies.

Haven't noticed taking damage shortly after something running into me at all. Usually come away with less health damage than any time something takes a swing at me.

as ammo is pretty scarce contact damage should be removed
illuminxted Oct 28, 2022 @ 11:04am
pretty sure its to prevent RE style push past monsters sort of deal force you to do stuff tbh if you use your resorces and dont move through a room too often most of the time they stay down

I ran around basically the whole game with the starting handgun and no spare ammo unless I was going with one of the big guns to clear and burn so that I could make high traffic areas easier to navigate.

Still finished up the game with dozens of healing items sitting in my box.

You should be fine, just exercise that Resident Evil part of your brain and try to route plan so that you're not running through dangerous spaces over and over again.

Contact Damage is one problem, but leaving a room and accidently stumbling into an enemy and getting damage without knowing there was one in front of the door is just random luck (and the character walks out of the door by itself, i can't avoid it) and should'nt be possible imo. Or is there a way to tell if an enemy is nearby when leaving a room?

Contact damage not only is a old mechanic but it sucks and should be reserved for games that dont have propper animations for enemies or at least use them at fitting enemie, like a spiky or blazing creature, something that would actually make sense

If you have nothing equipped, you can just run into enemies to shove them.

It's what I do as you don't have enough inventory space to carry weapons and ammo unless you love backtracking

This right here makes me want to quit the game honestly. I'll try and revisit it at some point when I'm in the right mindset to deal with that kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

you have to leave the room, then enter another room to reset the enemy positions. this was a problem i figured out pretty early.

if you leave and come back immediately or even after waiting a few mins, they will still be at their last known location.
