Why so blurry?
It took me minutes to understand I was looking at a menu and not a loading screen after pressing start.

you do realize you can turn off some filter effects if you wish right? They are on on purpose to give the game a specific feel, but if you don't like them, like say film grain which is on, you can turn it off before even starting the game.
Funny enough, I tend to turn film grain off on every game I play, this is the first time I feel it actually deserves to be there.

Yes, I do realise, and I did, before posting actually, and it's still blurry.
And indeed, "film grain" (because that's certainly not what it is), is the biggest culprit. But deactivating it is not enough, a lot of text remains barely visible.

I can't comment on that then. Mine isn't blurry, I can read the text. Some might be a tad smaller than I'd like but it is readable on my end. Couldn't tell you what you might be dealing with there.

You tried playing around with the pixel settings in the options menu?

CRT Mode makes it all blurry. You may have turned it on.

The real problem here is pixel scale. I have 30" monitors and being forced to pixel scale 4x for fullscreen rather than proper resolution support is brutal. Way too blurry and eye straining...

Pixel Art games can take some getting used to on big screens (I am on a 34" ultrawide), but usually it works just fine after a couple of minutes. I was a bit confused at first too, after having played Scorn and Call of Duty the past couple of days, but it works just fine in my opinion. Atmosphere is deep, story is interesting, so it kind of pulls you into it quite fast.

It's not blurry at all, it's super sharp if you use 3X scaling properly on a proper display ratio. That is 1080p or 4K. Even with the CRT Filter, that makes it smooth, and the edges smooth like a 480p Game, the text is still readable. When picking resolution, the resolution should be in blue, not white. If it's in white, that means the pixels are not properly scales to the grid.

I have it on PS4 on a 4K TV Display, and it's native 4K at 60 FPS.
The only problem is that the CRT Filter/Resolution/HZ and FPS reset after you exit the game.
They don't save on either Game Pass, Steam and PS4. I hope they hotfix that at least.

Kinda ruins the immersion and subtracts from the anxious nature the game thrives on IMO. But I guess if that's what it takes to get some people to play the game, power to them.

>> Mechanical keypress when entering/leaving the tab menu.
>> Fan noise wailing as it's open and you're navigating through things.

Only makes sense to have the visuals simulate an old-school terminal panel in need of a good ol' degaussing.

These effects should always be optional. I can't imagine dyslexic people will enjoy the effect for example. Lack of options to toggle on/off chromatic aberration, CRT, motion blur and no FOV slider are the absolute worst things in gaming.

Yeah I don't think CRT simulations are going to be worse off for a dyslexic individual when they're already struggling with common typefaces found in every other game already. Kind of a silly take to be honest. Chromatic aberration feels absolutely necessary for this game, and the extra CRT filter atop it is an interesting experience to say the least. Much better implementation than those awkward scanline filters found in old console emulators.

FOV slider is dependent on the genre. For a fast-paced shooter, of course you'll want to crank the FOV up. For a horror game, leave it up to the designers to pick that for you. You risk subtracting from the horror aspect of the game by being able to see everything around you easily. If you've ever played RE4HD with the fov slider turned up, you know exactly what I mean. It's just not as scary or thrilling once you're able to effectively nullify incoming ganks.

Motion blur I agree with you completely, but that's only to help those that struggle to hit ideal framerates. With console players being the focus and massive 60hz TVs being the main display utilized, it pays to have that defaulted on for a more "cinematic" experience for the average gamer. It is what it is.

In any case, you should buy and play the game, period. You'll understand the reasoning to why these choices were made better instead of being an outsider observer. A screenshot doesn't do the graphical effects justice at all. The actual journal snippets and paragraphs aren't affected by the effect, this only shows up when you're going through your tab screen.

How old are we talking about?
Because I was born in the 90s and grew up with 80s monitors, I don't remember them being all blurry with bleeding colours and unreadable text everywhere.

Heck, my grandmother had a TV from the 50s, you had to manually change the channels by turning a scroll wheel to tune the frequency. And while it certainly wasn't the sharpest image, it certainly wasn't that bad.

In my line of work I had to deal with a lot of devices with simple displays over years, and mind you these are displays you'd use only to get readings or set things up and not something you are expected to stare at for a prolonged period of time, and I never seen this sort of blurriness and distortion.
