Movies with a futuristic setting like Aliens and Starship Troopers all use real-world 'modern' weapons. Occasionally one of those weapons gets some plastic furniture applied over it to make it look like a new weapon at times like the M41A Pulse Rifle or the Morita.
But either way knowing that these futuristic military soldiers are using 'modern' weaponry has never removed anything from the overall atmosphere and enjoyment people get from those movies and the same applies to video games as well.
If it's not broken, don't fix it. Guns of today work well the way they are now, so I don't see much reason on having a drastic change on how they should look or perform in most futuristic scenarios. I highly doubt we'll be using laser guns or Warhammer-style Bolter guns in the future after all.
Besides, there is only a snippet of game-play and story elements that have been released for the game. It's pointless to assume so much from so little. The developer's may have an in-universe explanation on why the player character is using 'modern' firearms in the futuristic setting.
It could boil down to it being a personal sidearm belonging to someone, or maybe a private collection belonging to a weapon enthusiast or maybe simply they are just 'outdated' military surplus weaponry that are being used under extreme circumstances etc.
There may be more weapons that the player can get their hands on later in the game that are based off real-life weapons but they are modified to resemble new fictional designs in the same style of the aforementioned Pulse Rifle or Morita.
Again, it's way too early to jump to conclusions. But even if the final game still uses a 'modern' arsenal of weapons, I think most people will be judging the game based on more important elements such as the game-play, stability and story to really care all that much about several low-poly gun models that you will barely see most of the time in the game anyway.
