I can give you some information based on the current, final playtest:

Firstly, addressing the person wondering about the value of Nemo Bucks and the "headgear piece": We do not currently know the cost of buying Nemo Bucks. Costumes are sold as a whole, and you can not mix and match them. They also do not transfer to other animals. However, you can get many of the cool skins just by playing.


There are two forms of currency:

Nemo bucks - Bought with money (for an unknown cost at this time), and you can earn some through leveling up and achievements.
Cookies - Earned through playing the game. You can also exchange Nemo Bucks for Cookies at a 2:15 ratio, but not the other way around.


Characters/costumes are gotten through these ways:

Purchasing directly through the item shop with Cookies or Nemo Bucks
Achievements
Leveling up rewards
Surprise Eggs (loot boxes)


The item shop has a weekly and daily rotation.
Examples from current item shop (NB=Nemo Bucks, C=Cookies): Dracula Levi 3000 NB, Rabbit God Carrot 1600 NB, Punk Rock Bacon 1600 NB, Cowboy Nemo 800 NB, Orange Ancient Underbite 300 NB, Pink Bruce 120 NB, Highland Valiente 12000 C, Boy-Sparky 6000 C, Hamlet Garfat 6000 C, Voodooco 6000 C Tactical Lou 6000 C

Some characters can be purchased through the "Locker" without it being in the current item shop rotation. Base skins of characters that are not unlocked by default show up in the store for 900 C, but interestingly some of the alternative skins are only 300 C. You do not need the base skin to use the others.

Surprise eggs cost 120 NB each. You can buy 10 at once, but there is not currently a discount for that.


As of writing this, I have earned 16k+ Cookies (spent some) and 400 Nemo Bucks. I have earned two surpise eggs; one of which gave me the epic quality skin Pilot Underbite (Dinosaur).

All costumes and characters appear to have no effect on the gameplay.

yep, when i saw this in the recent videos i also thought its kinda a joke and thus i actually even lost interest in buying this game at all. still thinking about maaaybe buying the base edition, but definitely not the deluxe edition and after reading all the infos there are and seeing the shop with prices i feel like this is going to be another microstransaction ridden game, especially because it has gatcha mechanics too -.- gaming these days is just sad

To be honest, I like some of the characters better without a costume. Regardless, the game is hilarious and fun even without skins. Definitely worth the money for me.
