Am i missing something?

I don't get the controls. When i think i got it, next games everything seems to work different.
For instance, somehow the opponent's defense seems to easily steal the ball from my scorers, even when i'm "guarding", they somehow steal the ball. When i try to do the same, my defense barely holds his ground, almos always being useless. The only way i can get the ball back is intercepting a pass or when a forward pushes too far away the ball.

Also it's frustrating to lose the speed wars. Somehow their defenses outspeed my scorers; even get to catch them when i have the positional advantage.

Last thing; the loose ball thing. Lately the game doesn't select the closest player to the ball. I switch players but it never switches to the closest one, making impossible to win the loose ball. Like the reaction from the game to select the player is slow and sometimes just doesn't let me, like its impossible for me to take the ball, the game decided the other player is gonna grab it without any struggle.

Am I missing something from the tutorial? pressing just A and X is pointless, and position doesn't seem to be the only thing to do. Sometimes not pressing anything makes the player react better than doing something.

The defenders attack the player with the ball without you having to do anything. Provided your defending player is close enough to the opponent with the ball. I prefer to try to close the passing lanes and let the second man go directly to the opponent with the shooting key. PES winners is only for players who can control, shooting etc manually by R3 and hidden command. Many tips is given then we can defeat any players with "normal control" with only control 1 or 2 person(s). So this game isnt like CS:GO, PUBG, DOTA using "normal control" for playing. Hopeless playing football match by setup formation, tactics, and control 1-2 players.
It's sucks!!!
