But as far as I know, Switch version fares better in terms of online (at least it should, it is the case for 1st game now), so you could try it out if you have one.
Having said that I haven't seen any rooms in unranked modes but in Versus mode, I tried to create a room myself and wait to see if anyone will join, and a player joined in a minute, which surprised me. So there are indeed players checking unranked modes but they leave when they don't see any room. Perhaps creating a room ourselves and waiting for some time might help.
My first online matches (ranked and unranked) didn't have any lag and the game itself worked smoothly. I've found players in tetris-only and puyo puyo-only modes and I really liked these modes as they helped me to get used to both games after many years.
So I'm happy with Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 for now.
I wanted to share my experience related to the online aspect of the game with you.
Sega putting absolutely no effort/faith/support into the multiplayer is incredibly disappointing, especially when you consider 99% of the people who play this are going to spend 99% of their time in the MP modes without even touching solo play.
