Mist is newer/shinier obviously.
Main difference is that while Therian was based around the time tasks took, so you would build a queue of tasks running for many hours, Mist has a different basis, and uses cooldown timers on the resource nodes.
You'll easily get far enough to see if you like it in "free play".
The part i don't like about Mist Legacy is that i feel like it's too linear. It's rather plain/cookie cutter/typical adventure progression. Where Therian Saga stood out was that you started your adventure with a couple background questions, and you really felt like you were off on your own personal adventure. Mist Legacy has a story and a progression, but the constraints around advancing as a whole are too obvious/basic/simple/mindless. Very top level.
Therian Saga felt like my own adventure. Mist Legacy feels like everyone is playing through the exact same thing. with no variation whatsoever.
Go ahead and give Mist Legacy a try. Maybe you'll like it, maybe after a couple days you'll feel like me and just feel...underwhelmed.
