Using the low tier items for easy ascension is great, some of those rewards are worth rushing to. Another consideration though would be using the ascension shards on high tier items with pre-craft requirements! You can reduce the pre-craft requirement from green items to normal quality (or remove the pre-craft requirement entirely!) and it makes life so much easier.
I focused on those first, and then ascended low tier items to get the rest of the way to 15 for each line. The downside is it takes longer/more shards, the upside is it's easier to make gold by selling those high tier items in the meantime.

And also assuming you have all the premium and chest items, just computing weapons getting to 15 comes to:
Total of 1305 shards if you have the premium works, or 840 if you don't. Changes if you filter out the premium items, as I assume eventually you'll get the chest items.
Filtering out premium increases it to 975 shards.
Assuming I did all the manual stuff accurately. Should really dump this into a small database or even powerpivot.
Yes, ascending all items lines to fifteen will seem to cost a lot if you're lower level but your power to earn shards will also improve through your ability to open higher level chests and reach harder milestones in events. I'm level 65 and have ascended all lines but one to at least 15, with three of those lines being ascended beyond that.
I am a light spender (Royal Merchant and two of the paid NPCs) and never buy gems or shards from the shop, but I send quest parties after almost all of the quest bosses frequently for the chance of getting shards or other rarities with their chest keys. I reroll the Fortune Zone selections daily and buy shards whenever they appear. From all that plus shard rewards from each weekend event, I'd confidently guess that I earn over a hundred shards a week, maybe as much as 200 if I get a lucky pull from a tier 7-9 chest.
Just keep ascending one line at a time, starting with the ones where you already have extra T1-4 blueprints. Buy T1-4 blueprints with tokens during the King's Caprice events to make getting 15 ascensions cheaper in lines you haven't ascended yet.
27 ascensions is another milestone that some players stop at. That's where, for most lines, you will have the surcharge discount, the multicraft bonus chance, and the extra quality chance. This is usually done for a line where you plan to specialize in that line, or in one or two items in that line, and mass produce lots of that item in higher than average quality for sale in your shop or the marketplace. This is much cheaper in shards than going to 51.
