Awful control? Am I missing something?

Just started my first session and holy hell the controls are awkward. I'm using an Xbox controller, and my character is stuck holding a bow, and she keep facing to the middle of the screen. In order to run I had to press down the right analog stick. Is this intended or am I missing something because it feels rather awful.

I tested with other games and my controller works perfectly fine. That's weird. I guess I'll try with another controller later.
