Is pirate ship good? how to use it effectively?

I don't know but the pirate ship talent seems not worth to use.

the main problem for me that I can't go backward without changing the shooting directions.

I mostly use it as free additional chip damage by activating it but still staying in melee range.

Remember you can jump off it and leave it shooting on it's own while you move and dodge, and you can press the activate button again to make it explode immediately.

I love the ability of temporary flight and the extra damage when I'm mashing my melee cannon into flying enemies. Or I just put it somewhere for sustained ranged damage.

yeah, i mostly use it for boss battles where you can jump off it and let it shoot while you attack from another direction. It has limited use, but it's not bad.
