Gilded gear

Is the Gilded gear pretty much useless without high unity? Do the individual pieces not boost gold?

Same with other armor sets, they don't have any description on what they do aside from the unity information. At a point in the game where just trying to stack as much gold gen as possible and was using two pieces I had not realizing that appear they were not doing anything and were low quality gear. From the wiki, it seems they don't do any gold gen until you hit unity 100 which requires level 3 armors pieces.

It's not useless at all. The first 2 unity bonuses give you more ore and red aether, which you need plenty of at all stages of the game. You can use those to buy more Soul Stones or upgrade your very expensive gear and runes. You have plenty of options in the Manor to increase gold gain as well as Bounty runes.

Not useless, but not your best option. At the start, whatever gives you the most useful runs is the best. I always used a combo of leather, sanguine and drowned.
The top middle of the skill tree will unlock bonus money, this is the best option by far.
