Scars of Erebus. How does that work?
Even after beating 3 of the main bosses I still have only unlocked the first scar challenge (second one actually but the first where you fight enemies) and have no idea how any of that stuff works.

How to unlock more challenges? What's this empathy thing and what does it do? How do I gain more of that ball currency that's used to buy things from the two guys on the top floor? Should I just click "+" on the handicap thing to make the challenges easier or do I gain more of something (idk what you gain from completing challenges) if I complete it the hard way? Does beating the challenge with different classes affect anything?

Sorry for the amount of questions but this is really confusing.

you unlock hints when you beat the corresponding bosses, then you get hints as to where the scar memory is.

You get empathy by beating the portal challenges. at the end of those you get a chest and the empathy is inside if you have scars unlocked. you can get up to 9 empathies per scar. On battle scars, they increase stats when you press on the + and on puzzle challenges, it gives you additional time.

Beating the challenge gives you a score, the higher scores give trophies. each trophie awards you with souls. battle scars can be completed with multiple classes, and each score you do will stack, giving you a total score. So be sure to beat them with several classes, you'll get the gold trophie eventually. (scars that are class locked only have one score, since you can only do them with the locked class to begin with )

doing a scar without empathies will give you a better score multiplier, but there's no point in worrying about that if you get hit a lot and take a lot of time to complete it, since that will lower your score. so use empathies, unless you feel confident, or can't be bothered to collect empathies.

The ball currency is souls, you can unlock cool stuff with it. Like additional upgrades for the castle, the ability to lock the the last heir's class, fable weapons for some classes and even a jukebox ! the merchants are in the attic ! (you can also trade aether and metal for souls, but I don't recommend it until you don't have any other uses for those ressources)

Thanks a lot that was amazingly helpful! So defeating bosses will give me hints, and then I have to find the correct memory (those blue orbs) and just talk to it to unlock a new challenge, right?

just a tip I like to toss out for combat scars is that your score is determined by completion time, number of times hit, number of empathies, and taking relics will lower your score based on how much resolve they cost. As such one of the more quality ways to get a high score is to grab the serrated dagger relic since it has a minimal resolve score penalty and will dramatically reduce the time it takes to clear the boss, and since you're going for the high score you don't want to get hit anyways so the downside to the relic is mostly negated.

Pretty much, just note that scars memories will be red, compared to the usual blue one.
