Anyone else feel like Duelist is a bit redundant?
Like, I like the dodgeroll class talent. But the regular attack feels too similar to the other classes, imo.

Am I the only one that feels this way? Or is there something about the class I'm missing?

Some people may not realize but the iframes for the roll are rediculous. You can roll roll right through a bed a spikes and jump right off of them and still not take damage. If you roll into an enemy, there is actually enough time to run out of their body and still not get hit cause the iframes last for a tiny bit after the animation.
For attacking, mid air and air to ground combos are gonna be your jam... your attack speed in the air is substantially faster.
Jump hit hit hit land hit roll to other side then hit then rinse and repeat.
The attacks are fast enough to make the combo bell and molten rock relics give a bonkers dps increase.

When I mentioned the duelist felt sticky, I was told that it's intended that the player jump attack (the swipe), hold the attack into a thrust on the ground, and then dodge-roll away or through the target. So you might need to be jump attacking more to get anything out of the class.

I think the roll itself make the class very useful already kinda.

It is worth noting though that if I ever in a run and find a curio shop with the dodge roll... I immediately switch to filling out the map and then retire to swap to assassin lol.... assassin with dodge roll is just to fun

i dont understand this. the attack speed is horrible on the duelist, they just get a quick second attack if you time a jumping attack right. from their terrible damage though, the regular attack is too slow coupled with the rest of its low stats. compared to the paladin and barbarian, its inferior in every way. terrible health/attack, a terrible weapon hitbox, no useful jumping attack, no way to deal rapid or high damage, just a low damage slow sword and a semi useful dodgeroll. attack speed is meaningless, if all you can actually do with it is a 2 hit combo. now with the lancer, duelist is even less useful as its just a weaker slower version of the lancer.

Maybe just not your cup of tea. For me personally, its by far the fastest ng5 clear speed for me. You shouldnt be standing still poking on the ground over and over. its attack speed is almost twice as fast in mid around. spamming jump attack combos can get 3-4 hits in an extremely small amount of time and if you get good at dodge roll canceling with attack, its even faster. The sword hitbox is narrow because of what duelist is capable of. I personally can see dodge roll getting nerfed in the future given how utterly broken good it is. It greatly rewards precision and skill

still dosent compare to the knight, who can just stand stere spamming attack and even though its slower then the "combo attack", it will do far more DPS, and the barbarian? fugetaboutit. no other class even comes close to standing toe to toe with the spin jump, not to mention the ridiculously powerful regular attack that also out DPS's the duelist by a huge margin. what the duelist is capable of? what? being the literal worst melee class whos literal ONLY good thing is the dodge roll? the duelist is a joke, and just one of the many parts of this game that have had little to no thought or effort put into them.

You aren't using duelist properly if you think knight beats it in dps. the fact you think its a far margin means duelist just is out of your reach. It's fine though, every class brings something to the table and is fun in their own way. Hopefully you can practice enough to realize it's real potential. Good luck!

Just because you haven't figured out how to use the Duelist effectively, it doesn't mean there was little thought or effort put into it. The classes all play differently and require different approaches. They are also being re-balanced with updates and patches to fix any issues they have. Frankly, I'm very impressed at how differently the classes all manage to play while still being fun in their own right.

Duelist shares the #1 char with the boxer atm, for me
