Doing the challenges also gives you souls once.
I'm wondering if there are any other sources of souls as well in the new patch. Or if we really have to go to NG+whoknows to buy everything in the shop.
Edit: 15 hours in and I still haven't beaten the first Estuary. Is that embarrassing fact what the hold up is?
Any tips on what classes make the first one the easiest? I usually pick Valkyrie over anything followed by Barbarian and Knight, but I was thinking the first Estuary might be a whole lot easier with either the Mage or the Gunslinger, something ranged that would potentially keep me alive longer. I'm open to any suggestions at this point.
Once you get to NG+5, do you get souls each time you beat a boss, even if you re-thread the world?
See, back 20 years ago, after Wizards of the Coast bought TSR and then Hasbro bought WotC (which about a year before D&D 3.0 was released, so if you wonder why it bogged down even worse than what happened after ownership of TSR was seized from Gygax, now you know) . . . anyway, after the game came out, people realized that there were 'new player traps', that is, certain feats were far less useful than others, even if they sounded cool.
Even worse, you couldn't just buy the good ones later, because the resources you bought the newbie trap feats with were strictly limited by your level. Once you bought a bad feat, you were stuck with it for as long as you kept that character.
I'm worried that if we make a bad souls purchase, we'll be stuck with it as long as we play that save file, because souls have been strictly limited by NG+ progression.
Is there a way to refund soul purchases? Or to grind unlimited souls? Or do we need to wait for someone to play canary and discover which soul purchases just aren't worth it?
The majority of souls are locked behind the Scar Challenges. If you get silver or gold in a couple of those, you should have more then enough to spec out in any direction you like.
Just tried it and was only able to get 400 souls. Since NG4+ is to hard for me I'm at the moment stuck with +2 gear and +1 rune.
Unlocked the class upgrades and further things with the souls wich are not so helpfull :-/.
A way to reset the badly spent souls would be awesome.
Well I finally beat him. I went with Barbarian and just stood there and beat him down for as long as it took. I got out of the way for his bigger hits but for the most part I was pumped up enough to just take the hits as long as I kept hitting him.
I did find out that I had overlooked one minor item, a particular insight that came in handy that I never found until I looked up tips on beating that first boss. To think that it was right there. All those times I was in the lantern room, patting myself on the back for not recklessly smashing my way up top and how i "wasn't missing anything" by being careful. If I had been a little more reckless in that room just once I might have stumbled on to it....
