Release date was February of 2021. We are still waiting for two wrestlers promised at launch. Closing in on 3 years! I barely play anymore. You are correct that in it's current state it is a $20 game at best. It has a lot of promise, just not there yet.
I suggest waiting to buy it until it is on sale or an update happens. With what the devs say is coming it may be more worth it soon. I have about 34 hours of game play. Most being in the first few weeks, then some more when Chris Bey was added.
I agree with Darkness Muta; it's a fun game, but it needs more content. The devs keep promising and promising that the next update is going to drop soon. I check back once a week only to be disappointed. They've been saying the update is "coming soon" for 5 months now. After the update drops they're supposed to announce 1 more update with more wrestlers and features (hopefully tag belts), but considering how long this has taken we're looking at another 2 or 3 years before that update drops.
This update is supposed to have a lot of content, but honestly I would've taken the tag belts over a lot of the other stuff. I don't really "play" the game; I like to sim matches and let the little digital guys beat each other up. To have another belt to play for would add a lot to the game in my opinion.
On steam charts at the moment of writing this there is not 1 single player playing this game right now. Player count = 0 That alone should tell you if it's good or not, Just pass this up
Now the game is still lacking a few things that I hope gets remedied in a future update or DLC. The tag team belts are sorely missing, as well as a couple more real tag teams. I've heard that those should be coming later. More wrestlers would be a welcome addition, and I've heard that they have a few names signed - it's just a matter of when. I would also like to see a 3rd belt - whether it's the Hardcore belt or a more generic title like United States Champ or TV Title or the Intercontinental belt. I would vote for the Hardcore belt, but I would be open to any of them. It would just be cool to have another belt for the characters to have another belt to fight for. Beyond that it would be really nice to have a tournament mode like a King of the Ring.
One final feature I would like to see added is the ability to pick which wrestlers I want in the Retro Rumble. I oftentimes use it for whoever wins gets a shot at the Title Belt. More often than not the current champ ends up fighting in the RR, and on more than just a few occasions the current champ has won the damn RR. When there are only 17 wrestlers (19 once the other 2 get added) the odds of the champ not being 1 of the 16 aren't very good lol! IDK how difficult it would be to allow the player to select all 16 contestants.
That's really all I want at this point. People kept clamoring for things that were never going to happen. This was always supposed to be a sequel to WrestleFest, an arcade wrestling game. As such, there wasn't supposed to be much depth to the game - just a bunch of fast arcade action. There were people begging for a create-a-wrestler mode, which was never in the plans for this game. Then there were those asking for a season mode and GM mode. Again, this was meant as a pick-up-and-play sort of game - an arcade game.
Anyway, I hope my personal opinion of the game is helpful to you. It's a lot of fun and I feel like too many people aren't giving it a chance because it doesn't have this feature or that feature and it doesn't have your favorite wrestler. The game is only $30 and it frequently goes on sale for half price at $15. $15 for this game is a steal. Pick it up. Play it, Have fun.
Agreed, i will buy it one day but only when the price is right.
I bought Icarus while on sale for 23 bones and have already a ridonk amount of hours in it.
I can wait till they add more and the pricing matches the product.
Lawls you think I am some poor kid that can't afford it, bless your heart.
