Game Faulty?

When i press play the game does not even open? please help!

I just bought the game and mine wont open either. It says the "app is already running." Starting to think I just lost 3 bucks looking at these issues.

Same here. App Already running. You can see in the windows processes for 1/2 a sec on launch and then is disapears.

You can try the following: Close Steam . Go to the installation directory of steam: X:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\appcache. (Where X: is the drive letter or partition where you install your programs) Delete the httpcache folder. Try again to start the game. If it still fails go back to X:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\Prison Tycoon3 and see if you find a file with the name testapp .... If you find that file delete it. Try again to start Prison Tycoon 3.

Thanks for the suggestions, but didnt help. I guess this game was never tested well with Windows 7 64 bit. :(

Another suggestion is the following: right click on the Steam shortcut on your desktop, choose properties, select the compatibility tab, check the option run as administrator don't forget to press on apply and ok. I am playing Prison Tycoon 3 on Windows 7 64 bit.

Option 1:

Go to the following page on Microsoft’s website and select Continue, then Download. When prompted to Save or Open, select the Open option and follow the directions.

If this does not work, try Option 2.


Option 2:

Go to the following page on Microsoft’s website and select Download. When prompted to Save or Open, select the Save option and save it to a location on your hard drive.

When the file finishes downloading, double click on the file to run it. You will be prompted for a location to unpack the files to. It is recommend that you use something easy to remember such as:

C:\DirectX

Once the files are done unpacking, open My Computer and go to the folder the files were unpacked to (from the previous step). There should be a file in this folder called DXsetup.exe (or DXsetup). Double click this file and follow the instructions.


Once DirectX 9 is installed, your computer will need to reboot. After it has rebooted, you should be able to run Prison Tycoon 3.

have the same issues but i use Windows 8 64bit, all im getting when i hit play is the window for selecting the GFX card and ressolution, but no options in screen res, when i hit play again, all i get is the executable has stopped working

try running in compatability mode . i dont have the game but i would do this:

C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\prison tycoon 3\ scroll down and find the executable file that start the game up and RIGHT_CLICK on it and choose properties. when the box comes up choose compatabilty tab and choose run in Windows XP service pack 3 and may also want to check off run as administrator.
