MSFS Shuts Down my PC randomly
Specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 3600
XFX Radeon RX5700
2x8GB
Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz
Corsair RM650 650W
Gigabyte X570 GAMING X

Alright so I'm gonna preface this by saying that I have researched this somewhat extensively and come to a weird conclusion. The conclusion being that this probably has something to do with my graphics card.

Alright, let's first get to the problem:
While playing the game, excluding the installation of it but including the main menu, sometimes my entire PC shuts down without a warning or any kind of error message like a BSOD. I have not ruled out the possibility that this might be my PSU, but it seems weird when every other game I have ever played on my PC, including graphically intensive AAA titles that have my PC running hotter than MSFS, have never shut my PC down like this (or at all even).
The time required for this to happen seems to be random, sometimes it doesn't happen at all, sometimes it takes like 15 minutes. During my research of this problem I have found multiple people complaining about it, where sometimes it crashes for them right when they try to load a flight, while for some it behaves more like in my case. They all have tried a range of fixes, none of them really working, and people in the answers often told them that it's probably just a faulty PSU. One thing they ALL have in common that nobody mentioned however: they all have the Radeon RX5700 XT. I'm just wondering if and why this exact card might be the problem (weirdly enough I get this so often where I look up a specific issue I have with a game and 9 times out of 10 another person with the issue has this exact card, and I don't know if either a lot of people have this GPU or if it's just a weird GPU).

This post is half me looking for suggestions to fix this problem, and half speculating about the weird issues this GPU presents.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Did you get latest Driver for GPU?
Did you DELETE DXCache is both places?
Have you ebanbled Hyperthreading in BIOS?
Have you set a CAP in you GPU Settings to a good average?
Have you set V-SYNC = FAST or use G-SYNC?
Did you try setting MAIN MENU OPTIONS>EXPERIMENTAL>HANGAR ANIMATIONS OFF?
Do you have Virtual Memory set to 1.5x your RAM = 24GB?
Did you Optimise your PC for Games i.e. no: CORTANA; GAMING BAR; NO BLOATWARE

Power supply issue.

I concur that it is likely a PS issue. Mine was doing that until I upgraded my PSU. It probably seems like it's your GPU since there are times when your GPU will get massively stressed which places a huge stress on a marginal PSU. When I looked into the Specs for my original PSU I found that if the current draw ever exceeds what the MFG considers a safe limit, it will immediately shut down to save it from damaging itself. I never had it happen on any other game than FS2020 but once I upgraded my PSU it hasn't happened since.

Could be PSU, however are you monitoring your temps? My PC was hard shutting off with no error message when I didn’t realize my CPU was maxing out temp wise. MSFS is also very CPU heavy, so I wouldn’t rule this out.

So I now usually go into powersavings mode and limited the FPS to 60 in my AMD settings and that seems to have fixed it, monitering the heat was one of the first thigns I did but it wasn't getting hot at all. I don't think my PSU is necessarily failing but I guess the game still somehow manages to draw more power than my PSU can handle? Literally no other game does this, but hey it's fixed and I can fly now. Thank you for your input tho!

I also continue to experience this issue on my PC, only with MSFS. The PC blank screens and shuts down after some random period of time. Yes I also have the RX 5700XT.

PC specs: R7 5800X3D, 32GB DDR4 RAM, Seasonic 750W PSU and MSI RX5700XT.

In the process of troubleshooting this issue, I have so far replaced my PSU from a 750w Corsair, to a brand new 750W Seasonic that specifically supports the latest ATX standard (I forget the name), in hopes that this should help handle PSU spikes. Unfortunately the issue still persists.

Further efforts had me undervolting the GPU in AMDs Radeon app, enabling chill mode and capping max FPS to around 70, thinking that it might be an overheating issue, yet annoyingly I had another shutdown happen again today while running the Radeon logging.

Sadly, the logs didn't save it seems as I can't find the frametime file in the AMD log location, but I had the app open on a second monitor and both CPU and GPU temps were acceptable in the 70-75°C range with an ambient temp of around 25°C (it's hot in the UK this week). The only thing I saw maxed today was the VRAM, at 7960MB ish, making me think that the GPU is running out of memory and is crashing.

I don't have a fix, but commenting if others have any extra advice or info to compare before I replace my GPU as well, likely with a 7800XT for the extra VRAM over the 4070 as the 4070Ti super is too expensive and I can't find a new 6800XT for sale.
