Terrible performance on high end pc! Any help appreciated
I paid 120 for the premium delux bundle and the performance is just awful. I'm on a brand new pc and things are bad.

Specs:
GPU: Nvidia RTX 2080ti
CPU: Ryzen 9 3900x
PSU: Corsair SF750
Memory: Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4 3000
SSD: addlink 1 TB
Rolling data cache: 300gb

Flight:

EEGL (heathrow) Gate 535 Clear Skies 12:00pm

Graphics Settings: Medium Preset, v-synch off

Traffic: ai offline, all densities to 50, nameplates off

Data: Offline Mode

FPS: 30 fps
CPU Usage: 30%
GPU Usage: 32%

So this isn't good. I figured it was my system. Went and downloaded the game drivers from nvidia. Set the Nvidia performance settings to favor maximum performance, set microsoft power setting to amd ryzen high performance, set system to allow applications to override dpi scaling, increased priority in task manager to high, enabled hardware-accelerated gpu scheduling, and disabled microsoft game mode.

IT STILL SUCKS!

I even tried putting it to the lowest settings possible! All traffic off, all settings to low, no anti-aliasing, no online, render scaling to 0. I only managed to get 55 fps on a clear day staring at the instrument panel.

My cpu and gpu usage drop like a stone the second the scene loads. Why? I truly don't get it.

I'm going to have to refund this if I can't get to the root cause of this. Any advice? This is a new system so maybe I haven't configured something right. I don't think so though. Other games run great.

Seems to be really inconsistent performance wise.

Also, hardware accelerated GPU scheduling is a new experimental feature in windows and isn't always a good thing, and in some cases makes performance worse. I would recommend leaving that off unless proven otherwise that it improves performance in this game.

I'm on the other end, highend hardware, CPU & GPU are maxed out and i can fly ultra settings at 3840x1600 with 60 fps vertical sync. So it's definitely something with your system, energy saving, power limits... whatever, i would start looking at BIOS settings first.

Any idea what BIOS settings I should be looking for? I have an ASUS tuf gaming x570-plus

everything that limits your cpu to run at full power. i have no clue for AMD systems. i run a i9 10920x with all cores 4.8 GHz stable overclocked with raised powerlimits and watercooled. my 2080ti is also overclocked via afterburner.
MSFS2020 is actually the first ms flightsimulator that is able to run ultra settings on available hardware, the former versions were made for hardware 10 years after release... :D

it's best to check your cpu's behaviour first. what clockspeed does it run under full load?
"Set the Nvidia performance settings to favor maximum performance"

It saddens me that someone with a beast of a PC relies on this. Do you know what you are even doing? Nvidia is not well known for its good pre sets graphics wise for a game if not the worst. Also dont use Ryzen Master Utility because its software based and is just not reliable in any case. its decent software but I strongly discourage using it (asuming you are using it).

I did make a few changes to the bios settings on the cpu like limiting the voltage a little (was recommended by some research I did). I'm at work right now and can't check the specifics but I'll post them later

I set the bios back to default settings. I'm not seeing any change

Don't go around chasing rabbits by fiddling with your BIOS settings or other stuff that is probably fine. Do you have any other games? Do they max either the CPU or GPU? Do they exhibit adequate performance?

If the answer to all the above is YES, the game is at fault, not your CPU or GPU settings.

Some will argue that this is a next gen sim and it requires perfect settings all around but if that's really the case, then Microsoft and Asobo had it coming because almost nobody will have ideal conditions. A properly optimized software should have some flexibility/adaptability, if it doesn't then it's broken.

limiting the voltage a little....aiaiaiai

Reset your bios, and don't ♥♥♥♥ with it unless you know what you're doing. "a little research on the internet' doesn't count for that;-/

I'm running on 3700x @ 4.2ghz, RTX 2060, and 32GB 3K Mhz Ram = ~60fps high and ~45FPS on ultra @1080p.My bios is overclocked, but I know what I'm doing there, not random tweaking.

What resolution are you running at?

Start with high at 1080p. 60fps is fine.

Your system has more than enough power, so the issue is what you've done to your system to stop it working correctly. Get rid of any "performance" software that's running, reset your bios to default (make sure it's latest as well + ryzen chipset latest) and retest. Also make sure you're not running any big apps in the background that's hogging resources or bandwidth.

You can enable developer mode in the game settings and show the FPS graph to get more insight into the render timings, which might also show where it's bottlenecking.

Graphics settings...turn off USE GENERIC PLANE MODELS
Both of them...
Made an enormous difference for me.
CPU still microstutters. This all needs a fix

Limit the frames in nvidia control center to 60, just give that a try

Just cap it at 30fps, you won't really notice it with these kind of games.

This may sounds crazy but have you tried using older Nvidia drivers?
