Yeah boyo, you can't properly use the F-14 like intended in DCS either because your maps are so bloody small that the primary role of the F-14 - intercepting soviet attack planes before they can get into cruise missile range to attack your carrier group - simply isn't possible because your maps are only half the size of a Tomcat's operating radius at best.
But really - different strokes for different people. I like military jets but I honestly don't care much about doing the shooty parts. Carrier landings and air-refuelling would be nice to have ingame just for the challenge of it (although we have the former in the form of a mod, although it also does not work quite right). Plus of course there are still proper supersonic physics missing, even if the mod devs try to work around that somewhat.
DCS is great if you want to have the combat part in and has amazing study-level aircraft. That doesn't take away from the appeal in MSFS where you can travel everywhere in the entire world with your plane and the planes don't cost more than an entire new AAA game while still being decently modelled (as long as one doesn't buy from scammers like Bredok or MSScenery).
I wouldn't even say they are competing products because the two games are so very different in focus and scope. So yeah, I'm going to have fun with my F-14 in MSFS no matter what some say. But today, more TBM-930 first.

There you find the graphics files which change the nameplates outside the aircraft (DCD_F14_TEXT_DECALS.PNG.DDS) as well as the ones which change the crew patches (PILOT_PATCHES.PNG.DDS and RIO_PATCHES.PNG.DDS respectively) and then just change the graphics files by cutting out the old and inserting your own.
