Broken Mess of Game

I really enjoyed playing MSFS but I cant comprehend how you can build a software structure broken as the MESS of MSFS2020.

After a long time not playing I had the message "missing game data" or similar. And he had downloaded around 16gb stuff.
That finished but starting after that just gave another error which made it impossible to start "you are missing packages essential to run.." I restart the PC and than after a while thought maybe "verify game files" will help in steam.

Now for some reason the complete MSFS is GONE, three empty folders is all which is left and a 130GB+ download now neccesarry.

Im stuck with a 10mbit connection for the next few month... it will take DAYS to download.

How can this even happen? How can he delete everything without any prompt??

Im really dissapointed with that game so far, so many issues.

Take it up with Steam, they've known that their "verify game file" function breaks the game since day one and still have not disabled it or implemented a warning. The function doesn't even serve a purpose because Steam doesn't have the game files, all they have is the installer data.

So you're really barking up the wrong tree here.

if MS would use the proper implementation in the steam eco-system we wouldnt have the issue. But they have forced (similar like rockstar with GTA) their system on top.

Its the general way how the game is updated, how slow DL speeds are (with a fast fiber connection I usually have / had) how often thinks break due to cached files. It really feels far of beeing stable as it should.

So yes you are right, steam also could or should do something against their implementation is deleting the game.

Still im not satisfied with the - far of beeing stable - implementation of downloading and updating the game.

It was also a total mess when I had the game pass from microsoft for a while. I felt like he was beeing confused which version of the game I had when starting it over steam.

- never installed it over microsoft or xbox app - just the linkage to my MS account was eanough to make him download extra stuff and beeing broken after game pass ran out.

Sry but it's NOT okay in my opinion!

Need to use SFC & DISM commands to fix Drive & OS errors and then completely remove the Game including Registry Files by searching Game Name. Then Reinstall.
Run As Admin CMD:
SFC /SCANNOW
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

There has been too many errors occur during all the Updates on stressed Servers and it does not Delete all old files. This needs doing following any CTD.

It works fine for me - it usually has. I can sympathize with a 10 mbit connection though. I haven't had the (dis)pleasure of such a thing since around 1995.

I had luck downloading a lot faster using a VPN.. a lot of ISPs throttle downloads from microsoft servers around times when windows updates are pushing; and I think there were a few recently.

The two biggest issues with the game for me are the update process and the avionics. The avionics have had so many different versions that 3rd party aircraft often use various versions. It is a mess trying to sort out which version you need installed so you end up having all of the versions installed. I do hope their versioning process in future titles is handled better.

The other thing is they use Fuel much faster than the WORLD MAP RANGE and this one runs out at 3% (some are at 7%) which also catches us out even more. Many of these 3rd Parties are so difficult to Startup, some need FUEL CUTOFF OPENED as is not Default, but some have nowhere to even Open it LOL.

I keep forgetting about the hidden Garmins. Some we must select by Livery e.g. C414AW.

Game has always been a mess as it depends on 3rd party addons to fill in numerous gaps. Those who say they don't have issues are either lying to themselves or not using any addons, except I can't what game is like without an addons

My MSFS folder is 860GB so I think I have an addon or two, and I'm not having issues.

you are lucky to even be able to download them i always get stuck at 11 out of 300 or 400 so on downloads 10 then can't download 11 files and i have no dam clue what they have done to make an install so broken.

Instead of compare and blame.....how about technical?

Like FSX, my ratio of Fix : Fly is again about 20 : 1 to make it 'perfect' or even 'acceptable'.
Shadows and dust.
It's all perfect until something new quickly ruins it all.
(btw another fu is deserved to micocrap for wasting my precious time here on earth)

But this time around, the graphics options and experience are so much better.

How about a sticky:

have 16 TB. issue is it just stops mid download, had to get a friend to send me individual files via gdrive and add them manually because the installer just could not do it.
