How to install update on external SSD
I downloaded the game to my D: drive removable SSD but the in game update downloaded onto my C: drive and I am unable to locate the files nor can i figure out how to make sure they get moved or download properly. I found a couple of pages mentioning the UserCfg.opt files that I can edit but those are from years ago and cant find the file.

1) Hit your Windows Key.
2) Type...

%appdata%

...and hit enter.

3) Open the Microsoft Flight Simulator folder.
4) Open the UserCfg.opt file in a text editor (notepad will do)
5) Scroll all the way to the bottom and look for...

InstalledPackagesPath "X:\some\path"

This is the path the game uses / looks at for both official and community content.

For your current situation, I suspect it has defaulted back to and installed the game inside this same directory (as in appdata/roaming). Copy the contents of the path above to your desired location and edit the path appropriately so that the path listed contains the Community and Official folders.

I did not realize it would be under User. I was looking for it in program files. I have edited the .opt in the users file path, moved the packages folder to my external hard drive and deleted the packages folder from that appdata/roaming folder. I am assuming that should my harddrive change its designation from D: to E: or F: I will need to make an edit, but so far it has worked and i cant be more pleased unless i had never had to do this.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Yeah, you'll need to be aware of drive letters. Keep an eye out when opening the game and if it tries to install an update to a path that isn't what you think it should be then it likely failed to find the path set.

And no worries, glad you got it working how you want.
