better 'objective' system and people that play for 10 hours would play 50.
The biggest area MSFS2020 is missing out on is the "reward system" in the OFFICIAL landing challenges and not the user content ones you are ranked on your performance. A lot of people will play those over and over trying to get an A on all of em. So add more of those, also how about a better (wider score) not just A B C but like A -F maybe. (would legit take NO effort beyond changing the value) and adding more (SHORT) objectives (ones that are under 10 mins) in volume with official ranks that are actually displayed.... (not like the ranks in user content which you can earn but never know what you got when you go back into menu) Well if you did that a lot of people who play a few hours each week would dedicate WAYYYYYY more time to your game,. I Know its a simulator, but there are plenty of gamers and not sim fans playing who want some objectives that dont involve a 40 min flight across the country in the slowest planes you have......

Just a thought!

I suppose what I am trying to say here is that Microsoft/Asobo might view something like a "perfect flight" or a "perfect landing" in a much more simplified, general way and such a system isn't as likely to reward those who are much more "by the book" about every departure, flight, approach, and landing.
So they should keep Grade A difficult for the pros but make Grade B&C more lenient?

I don't have a problem with the mission grading except it often doesn't work.
"Take off in the F-18 with the runway and then fly straight up".
Okay I did that. Nothing is happening.

In the many wish-lists: Why don't they add realistic crash scripts?
1). Plow into the ground= Black screen. "You died instantly"
2). Nose over on landing= Sitting flipped inside plane with blood grunting and limited vision.
3). Vector sideways= Watch the wings tear off while rolling. "You survived but are injured"

In a helo I lost power and auto-rotated in for a reasonable survivable landing.
The aircraft would have skidded a ways and then stopped on the ground.
It wasn't perfect, but MSFS provided only a Pass-Fail scenario.

That was a fail. XD

What would you expect the sim to do? Provide a list of injuries? A list of things that needed repair and a costing? I mean, really, what would be the point? It'd be nothing more than a wild guess anyway.

I could only see that as part of a mod or add-on. Take on Helicopters tried to do something like this and was marginally successful.

Air Hauler 2 tries to add some maintenance costs and cause and effects to bad landings as well as aircraft wear and tear. I think it sets it all up for you each flight but it is not well integrated and feels quite odd. The big issue is that the sim right now does not have the same support API wise as FSX did and that is what is keeping 3rd party add-ons from being able to do what they want to do.

And no matter what an add-on may do it still comes down to the design of FS 2020 as being a flight from A to B. When you add in schedules and so on that is all in a 3rd party system that 'tracks' it but FS 2020 doesn't know anything beyond each individual flight. And it never will or should.

100% bang on. That is, indeed, the biggest issue with the sim.

Some of it is just that producing a feature complete and bug free API is a multi-year task, and they are still working through it all. Some of it seems less savoury though, almost like they don't want to open some things up. The later is disappointing. I hope that's not the case and it's more just the former at play.

As much as it would be cool to have these things built into the game itself there are quite a few add-ons and mods that can give goals, advancement and ways to spice up the flights.

First there are career style addons (Neofly, Air Hauler 2, Skypark, A Pilots Life, Aviatife, OnAir Company). I personally use Neofly as it seems to have the most varied type of missions.

There is World Tour Flights (worldtour.flights) which has hundreds of flight plans submitted by users to get you sightseeing in areas you may not have visited otherwise.

There is Bush Talk Radio - Which gives you audio tours. For example fly over Lincolns Home or Lincolns Tomb in Springfield Illinois and have audio automatically kick in and tell you about the site.

There are a plethora of ways to do more than just randomly fly in the sim. It is just that you have to look for them as they are not built in. I am using NeoFly to randomly, haphazardly fly around the world. I start it up and choose a mission, usually a VIP mission (keep your banking to < 45 dgrees) or a fragile cargo mission (land with a VS speed less than 200) that will send me westerly, usually 100 to 200 NM at a time in a GA aircraft. I started in Illinois and am currently in Italy.

The changes im discussing are TINY and would make a large difference for casual players. Im aware you hardcore flight sim guys are thumbing your noses and scoffing til it hurts by this suggestion. But on Microsofts part its a smart idea. Make it so the grades under user content remain and appear on the mission after you exit the mission. (they seem to be erased unviewable....how the ♥♥♥♥ am i supposed to know which mission i already flew and how i did on it?!?) The other changes i suggested is make the grading system a bit more expansive or detailed. As of right now there isnt much variety in scores, kind boring. (maybe add stability or smaller functions add towards grades) And lastly the maverick low altitude flights are the most fun missions in the game. Add a bunch more jet based "manuever/speed/alt challenges" Also great opportunity to show off locations with those type missions. Thats all. If your complaint is "But its a flight sim blah blah blah..." save it.

They are not TINY by any means. Explain how you think these changes are TINY? A few things you never say as a developer. Oh 'that is easy' or 'that is 'simple' or 'that isn't much to do' or 'that won't take long'. Never ever ever ever ever ever ever say these words or you will eat them.

Personally I like the 'human' interaction as much as the physical flight challenges (those come naturally for this pilot lol). Even if a person is not on a multiplayer server, A.I. conversation scripts might eventually catch up and fill in the gaps. It makes it realistic with distractions and fills in the gaps.

In FSX the Hawaii checkout mission was wonderful to see the beautiful coast while someone points out history and features of the landscape. These could be created with enhanced A.I. ATC or passenger conversations i.e. "Pilot, could you circle around the city so I can point out where I work to the kid?" or "Pilot could you keep it more level we are getting sick back here?" or "Speed it up" or "Pilot you are doing a great job" or "Do we have enough fuel to get to a further airport?"

My uncle was a Navy fighter pilot in WWII. My father was a general aviation pilot. I used to fly with him before he passed. I took lessons myself before "life" got in the way.

Nothing is perfect. However, MSFS is as close as they have come to it. I get it. Sometimes, I also long for some kind of "mission". For now, I am just enjoying the challenges flying the sim presents. That's a lot, given the variations in weather, terrain and aircraft available to us! Bravo Asobo and crew!
