Any idea how to use heading hold in the DC-3?
Using the modern autopilot but the desired heading indicator doesn't work with heading hold.

I haven't tried the modern autopilot, but on the classic version it works as you think it would, just dial in the heading and activate it. You may need to add a control option for it if you wish to map it to something using the Toggle AP HDG Hold command, then you can just dial it up and down. Likewise, map Toggle VS hold and then you can dial VS up and down to use the AP to ascend and descend. For minor corrections, that's what you'd do in a DC-3.

The patch notes actually say it doesn't work in the Retro variant. Maybe they got it backward and it doesn't work in the modern one. https://prnt.sc/n5Wdep15c0ly

The Retrofit means that they have retrofitted modern avionics into the classic aircraft. The modern aircraft is the retrofit. I didn't see those patch notes, so dang for the retrofit. The classic is a joy to pilot, though.

Ah its confusing. There is a button "hdg hold", this mode does not behave like with modern autopilot. It actually just holds current heading, not the selected heading. There is also another button that is holding the selected heading.

In the retro version you can use ctrl and INS or DEL to move the desired heading, it takes some time as one press is one degree.

The DC-3 was never designed with a modern autopilot in mind. Or put another way, it had the most cockpit automation you could expect for an aircraft of its time. You would use stick and rudder quite a bit more. you'd have a co-pilot to rely on, and likely a flight engineer as well if the flight was long. Humans!
