FYI: List of all MSFS Versions in chronologigal order
1982: Microsoft Flight Simulator 1.0
1984: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2.0
1988: Microsoft Flight Simulator 3.0
1989: Microsoft Flight Simulator 4.0
1993: Microsoft Flight Simulator 5.0
1995: Microsoft Flight Simulator 95
1997: Microsoft Flight Simulator 98
1999: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000
2001: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002
2003: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight
2006: Microsoft Flight Simulator X
2012: Microsoft Flight
2020: Microsoft Flight Simulator

As you can see, there's always been a new Version of MSFS every 2-6 years.
The only exception was In the period between 2012 and 2020, where there was was no new version of Microsoft Flight Simulator, as Microsoft had decided to temporarily discontinue the development of flight simulations.

So I don't get why some people start whining about that now

Great. You are the 27th person who has posted this list now. Congrats. Do you want a cookie for your copy & paste job now?

Many people around here and on the official forums have made it perfectly clear why they are not happy with Microsoft's decision. You only need to read the pertinent threads, but since you are chalking it off as "whining", you are obviously not even interested in understanding the "whiners" so why should anyone even waste any effort explaining it to you again?
Go read the threads. Simple. Then you might "get it" (or not).

Oh, read some of those threads, where people feel somehow scammed, betrayed or whatever.
Most of them are just misinformed and spread false accusions like the devs had "lied" to them because MS promised to support MSFS2020 till 2030.
Actually Asobo/MS never stated that, they're going to work exclusevely on MS2020 till 2030 only. It also would make no sense for many reasons.

Others were asserting they could no longer use their DLCs with FS2024, although devs stated that the vast majority of them will be compatible with that version as well.

Some users feel concerned that Asobo won't be capable of maintaining the development of both MS2020 and MS2024 at the same time.
That's also nonsense. Asobo has got 550-600 people working for them and they've been working on different projects simultaniously for years now.
Pretty much they have some experience in that.

It's common that after the main development of a game is finished, like it's for MS2020, parts of the team are getting relocated to a new projects, and keep a small team working on the old project for maintenance, patches and add-ons.

So yes Asabao has the ressurces for that.

Although FSX + the Acceleration expansion pack was, unexpectedly in its time, supposedly the end of the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise, I'll argue the spiritual lineage continued with Prepar3d versions 1-5. Each version has been a separate purchase. Most third party developers supported their products through the version changes, and I don't see a reason it will be different for MSFS 2020 to MSFS 2024.

Microsoft Flight shouldn't be considered Microsoft Flight Simulator canon IMO. It tried to cater to everybody but ultimately it appealed to no one. Fortunately Microsoft learned that lesson befote building MSFS 2020.
