Install time

Holy hell, this install is crazy. 60 bucks isnt worth this is it ?. I can download GTA V in under an hour but this game gets stuck on some decompressing files an stuff. Im about to refund this.

The install is a pretty terrible experience for many, a weak point of the game.

Although I find it amusing to compare it to an eight year old game you could play on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

I mean i used gta as its a rather large game. i could care less how new or old it is. Ether way i refunded this game. so

Eh, it's about half the size of MSFS 2020.

Something to consider it that this game currently stands at I believe 160G, so unless you have a very very fast internet it's going to take a while. I just checked my install size. With a couple of purchased aircraft and a lot of liveries installed my installation is 188G in size.

my download speed is 165mps

I remember when I first downloaded this simulator and it took several hours which I wasn't expecting but at that time I had no idea how large the install was. Should have looked that up before purchasing but didn't think about it at the time.

how do you check the actual installed game size? right click on my folder, it shows 1.5 GB, that is not right, right?

I have a program called folder size to look at my hard drives to see where all of the space is taken up. It's free. But you are correct. Open windows explorer and right click on the folder, select properties and it will show the size of that folder with it's subfolders. I just did that on my FS2020 folder and it showed 188G.

Do you have it installed? It was about 70GB at release and it's had many, many updates causing it to bloat and reach around 100GB. That's about the size of MSFS without all the updates.

If you quit because of the download, this game wasn't likely for you anyway. You should stick with GTA. It suits your mentality better, as per your own words.

Here's what you need to know without all the crap ;)

The game requires a minimum of 105GB still as you are not forced to add the Major Updates which are not all worth it. However, for the install process it will be larger than this to perform the unpacking process and require around 135GB space. Best to install on a separate SSD and not your OS Drive due to all added Content later.

On top of that by your own choice (and changeable after installing) you can add a Rolling Cache which is default at 8GB (I set 10GB) and this is for BING & PHOTOGRAMMETRY which it asks if you want this (not forced). This has the best visuals and is best to use your OS Drive solely for this NOT your Gaming 2nd Drive else it will stutter. This is to be Deleted after each Major Update or or other Content which is replacing geometry (Airports & POI).
Instead, you can also choose to use this with Internet Data and is advised if you have great Broadband like >100mbps.

If you have even 80mbps as I do then the Download Speed can vary from 3 to 30mbps as it throttles speeds. Best do this over night when you won't need access to PC as it can take 6hours for this.

You might be lucky enough (like me) to NEVER need to reinstall it ever again. If it does seem to hang on loading, allow 10mins to complete, if it ever won't let you click "CONTINUE" then you must select ALT+ENTER for FULLSCREEN (best to run this on to prevent degrading performance over time) to enable you to click it.
If you are not enable to get into the Game you must check that you are either Signed IN to your MICROSOFT ACCOUNT (what you use as main PC email or installing your OS with) or XBOX ACCOUNT (if you have one). If you can not verify your account then check your Email Junk Box.

If it hangs on installation for way too long without progress then you may need to Delete the last file downloaded. You can check this by date in the Folder. It will then continue when trying again.

*** NEVER USE STEAM VERIFY GAME FILES FOR MSFS ***

MSFS is worth it. Lots to learn. Lots of fun. It's a long long road to add your own journey.

i was about 3 1/2 hours in and 60 gigs downloaded. but it got hung up on a decompression file for almost 45 mins. I gave up after that.
