Is XBOX Game Pass PC the way to go?

You get to play the Standard version on the 18th at launch.

For a casual player, paying just £3.99 per month(£1 first month) for 2 or 3 months seems a good option until a decent sale.

Haven't bought a single microsoft exclusive since 2016, I just get gamepass and get to play a lot of games per year. If you turn off auto-renew, you can cheese the $1 a month every other month sometimes. If not, $5 a month only totals to $60 a year. So if you play more than fs2020 in a year's time, it's probably worth it to just get gamepass and buy the dlc's you want.

If all you want to play out of gamepass is FS2020, then maybe buying it would be a better option.

Just download the 'XBOX Game Pass PC (beta)' app Win 10. Install and pay your £1 with a monthly sub(only £1 is taken). Once the App is installed, you may have to open up the Microsoft Store to find the Standard version and you can install what looks like some kind of 'marker', but not the whole game until 18th. About 127GB install come launch.
