New player problem with taxi after landing
Hello. I've had the game for about 3 weeks, and I've slowly been learning the controls and how to fly. Yesterday, I was flying my own route from Jacksonville International Airport to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood airport in FL. The flight itself went well, however once I landed and was still on the runway, things started going crazy.

The objectives told me to slow down to X speed and exit the runway, however, the tower had not given me any type of taxi directions (which exit, which taxi ways, etc). As soon as I exited the runway, it appeared that "auto-pilot" took over. I'd turn the rudder to turn right, and the plane would keep going straight...the plane would start going off the taxiways into the grass and not following any actual path. If I put the engine in idle, I would seem to regain control, but as soon as I powered up after a few seconds, the same thing would happen.

Should ATC/tower be giving me taxi route before I land, or immediately after? Anyone else see crazy, out of control plane movements once on the ground? Flying with defaults. Didn't have any assists on that I was aware of.

I would check to see what AI assistance is enabled with regard to the weirdness upon landing. You can do this in game via the hotbar or in the options screen from the main menu. There can also be whacky behaviour when on the ground due to wind.

As far as taxi instructions go, you will typically land, be told to exit the runway, then be handed off to ground control who will give you taxi instructions. There can be variations on this theme depending on the size of the airport but ultimately you don't get taxi information until you have exited the runway.

Typically tower will tell you to turn left / right onto <taxiway_designation> and then contact ground on xxx.xx. Which plane were you flying? Not all have steerable nose wheels and some require differential braking to turn.

Wind correction should be dive away (pitch down and opposite wind direction) from wind if behind you and level into the wind if in front of you - as in behind or in front of your wings.

In the Assistance menu, there's a thing called Taxi Ribbon, which has unmistakable arrows pointing the route the ATC wants you to go. Turn that on, if you haven't already.

Yes, the objectives just tell what's next, not how to actually get there. If you are at a controlled airport you have to contact ground and ask for taxi instructions.

In case you need airport charts and don't want to spend extra money I can recommend using a free software called "Little Nav Map" which has probably most airports and taxiways in sufficient detail to get to the correct spot.

Also, for the first tries on the taxiways I would strongly recommend practicing on a smaller airport than KFLL :)

This is definitely a game issue, not just familiarity with taxiing. When I posted yesterday, I was using the Cessna Citation CJ4. Tonight, I did a shorter test from Fort Lauderdale Executive to FLL, and this time I used the Cessna 172 Skyhawk.

When I did the test tonight, the taxi assistant did come up this time and show me where to exit the runway, but, I still had major control issues. This plane should use the rudder controls (I'm using an XBox Controller) to steer..even the on-screen prompts tell you this when taxiing. However, I had more success steering the plane with the ailerons (left stick) than with the rudder. The plane behaves as if the rudder is fully depressed to make a hard left. I was able to taxi 70% of where I was trying to go, and then it became impossible to counter the hard left that the plane was trying to take.

I don't believe this is any type of controller issue. The plane flys just fine in the air. It's only once I land and try to taxi that the plane seems to be under some other type of control which would just take the plane randomly driving across runways, through grass instead of taxiways, etc.

This is not true with the C172. I fly it all the time in the sim. Ailerons do nothing on the ground. I'm not even sure crosswind correction does anything while taxiing.

Rudder must be used. In the C172 rudder is also tied to the nosehweel and it steers just a little bit left or right with the rudder to assist you.

It is likely you have auto coordination turned on. I can 100% verify that without auto coordination you cannot turn a 172 without rudder while on the ground.
