Huge fps drop and freezes
Hello everyone, first of all, my computer is not a war machine, but it seems like it can handle MFS2020. I have a I3 9400F + gtx 1660 super + 16gb DDR4.
The game was working flawelessly, but I had to reinstall it due to hardware modifications.

Now, when I am playing, randomly, I drop from 60 fps to 2, and it stays at 2 fps until I restart the game.

My cpu/gpu are not overheating, I checked and only 6gb of ram are used.

Does someone have the same issue?

(Sorry if my english is not that good)

Many pilots have the same issues with framedrops and other problems. Look at https://forums.flightsimulator.com/. Most problems came with the last update.

I noticed the same thing.Fps dropped from 40 to 1 and it lasts for a few seconds....than it goes normal again.....and I'm sure that it didn't happen before the latest update.

The last update messed something up badly with terrain processing. The only 'fix' atm is to turn online data off completely (turning it into fsx basically) or set the draw distance so low (terrain detail slider) that the performance drops aren't totally crippling. Or stay over the oceans...

same, game worked flawlessley 40-60+ fps all the time, however, since this update, i recieve fps drops, when at a certain altitude, to unbearbly low fps eg 4 fps, on my rtx 2060 super, this occurs in areas where there is no buildings aswell, storeage and ram is not a problem as i have 16gb ram, and 4gbps nvme

Dude it's a sim, you need only one 1 fps to play it.

yeah here, only happens now and again, 60 fps then stutters like crazy as drops to 12 fps, then back to 60 again, no reason for it either, just flying over land at same height and speed to test it, nothing below near that would cause it?
Was fine before this last patch, so last is the problem for sure.

There are 2 Fixes they found in the memory management plus they can triple the efficiency but presently it causes issues at times @1:08:40

I get FPS drops but overall better loading performance. I think they spread out the load over time which is causing drops but keeps the sim interactive albeit it hitches for longer than it use to. So it looks to me like they spread the load out over a longer period of time which causes things to load in slower but keeps the sim playable.

I would rather the load be spread out over time and suffer frame hits but still have enough to keep it interactive as opposed to what we had before which was the sim literally hanging for some time while the stuff loaded in.

The new load in system is much better IMHO.

I also had stutter and moments when FPS plummeted. Thing is that Microsoft also pushed a Windows "Security" update (around the 9th of March for me). I noticed erratic behaviour of my PC, it wouldn't restart or shutdown by software, had to shut down manually. I searched to correct this odd Windows behaviour, without success. My last option of what I could think of was to uninstall the latest Windows updates (from 9th of March). Held my breath on restart and to my surprise the issue was gone, and in the same moment my FPS issues with MSFS were also gone, back to the satisfactory behaviour like before Simupdate 3, but with the most current version of MSFS.

Could you please give us some more details on this update? What is the KB number?

Old topic, but I am experiencing the same problems. To me it started with the update of the end of July. After I emptied my Community folder I could play for days without issues, but yesterday the world map in the flight planner started to lag and freeze at random. Today flying started to hick and freeze again (sigh).

If you are experiencing the same, hit alt-enter to go to a windowed mode. If this works then make the task bar auto-hide. Expand your MSFS window to cover the whole screen if necessary.
