2024 Offline?
Will 2024 always online only because of the cloud or will it have an offline mode too even if the features aren’t complete? Every game should have an offline mode

Microsoft is heading to 100% cloud-based apps. MS24 is supposed to have around 50-60GB on the hard drive with the remainder being streamed from servers as needed*. The next flight sim after that might be 100% cloud.

I can't imagine the sim will be playable offline. Maybe there might be a way to play with what you have in your cache, but at some point you are going to need to be online to get that.

No not everything Midsoft does will be 100% cloud based. But that’s not my question.
It seems we can play a part offline but the option to download additional maps would be the best solution

Why would they make sp offline games cloud based lol. Even more people would boycott them. But they will go the sega route anyway

Cloud based software is a stepping stone to SAAS. The idea is to eventually have everyone subscribe to everything on a monthly basis.

software moves to the cloud, thats the reality. Which is not necessary bad.
It would probably be several terrabytes required to have everything local. Who can come up with that?

No software won’t be cloud based. 1.Not everything has to be that big
2. local space will increase as well
3. majority of people will never subscribe to game subs
4. Pc gaming will always be the best option
5. Nobody wants to get fixated what you can and can’t do

So all just fear mongering….but still my question still wasn’t answered

It’s bad. They have full control over you and once software will be that big, terabytes are nothing anymore on your local hardware. Pc gaming and local gaming is the future. For a game like flight sim it makes sense at least right now but flight sim is a special game. Still an offline lesser quality version should always be implemented, even here.

sigh.. i was really excited but then this news came in. I'd rather invest in high capacity ssd and have everything offline than to rely on internet connection

Dude that’s just fear mongering. Nobody knows what Microsoft will do in the future. One fact remains
Normal games will always be able to be played locally but flight sim for now ^^needs^^ the cloud because of the disc space. Still there is no answer yet if you can download additional maps for offline play because this would be the route where Microsoft would make the most money. Giving the player options

Microsoft has 2.5 Petabyte (2'500 Terrabyte) in aerial imagery alone. Plus airport data. Plus aircraft data. Plus elevation data. Plus weather and traffic data. And so on.

Have fun setting up your very own at-home data center.

Even after the horrible data streaming thats been plaguing msfs2020, there are always ppl like you who want to defend this stuff. And that assumes your isp nvr fck up and stay stable the whole time.

The entire planet does not need inch scale resolution. There is no reason they couldn't reduce detail where it doesnt matter and keep the airports detailed other than them wanting an excuse to make it online only.

Downloading separate things is the proper way forward to play offline. The whole world makes sense to get streamed….at least for now but if you only want to fly let’s say in germany you should be able to download it from the cloud to play locally
