Addon missions and careers
The free Neofly 4 addon (https://www.neofly.net/) is a really good option for adding jobs and missions. The Freelance section allows you to start at any airport and aircraft you want, and you can choose available jobs from there. The missions may be limited by your aircraft choice, but basically you fly the job without any penalties if you crash or fail, and without having to invest any virtual cash. You earn XP points and reduced career payouts which does help your career progress. Freelance is a good way to try out the various career missions and learn how they work, for example 'Illicit Cargo' requires you to stay below a certain altitude AGL (which I failed numerous times before I figured out I should use an aircraft that has altitude hold). Neofly also comes with one free scripted campaign that has you flying in and out of North Korea to solve a pandemic. It's kind of tricky but a lot of fun. Get the free Sky4Sim EFB tablet to enhance your Neofly missions (and all of your MSFS 2020 flying).
Before I switched to Neofly 4, I was using a similar free career addon named Aviatife (https://aviatife.com/). It essentially works the same as Neofly 4's career mode, but with a few differences. I enjoyed it for a while but it became a grind. It did force me to explore the map a little more, and also learn how addon careers integrate with the main sim. However, I think the creator of Aviatife has long since gone AWOL--as much as I can tell from the Discord channel.
I also looked into a payware career program called SkyPark by Parallel 42. I think SkyPark started out with a then-unique premise of choosing freelance jobs in any aircraft and earning money and reputation points. However, the main criticism of SkyPark was that career earnings had no purpose. Development of SkyPark seems to have stopped years ago; and I think Neofly took SkyPark's concept and made something similar if not better.
Edit: Wait, what? https://fselite.net/content/invernyx-acquires-parallel-42s-the-skypark/
I think you might well be surprised.
After the initial mess (which was inexcusable imho) it's settled down and is running faster and smoother than 2020.
The missions are pretty decent as well :)
