Anyone using an OLED display for MSFS? Is there a high risk for burn in with long flights?
I am ordering my custom rig this week and want to update my monitor. I know OLED is awesome visually but worry about burn in since I will be on long flights without a huge amount of looking around constantly. How is your experience with OLED and how long have you been using an OLED display?

Thank you.

I severely doubt it but if using it solely for MSFS then who cares. Even so, you are best to use TRACKIR on a Flatscreen else you are missing out immersion. In which case no worries what so ever.

Sorry to be a jerk but what's the point of getting to altitude, setting a timer, and walking away from the computer streaming data without doing anything else in the meantime?

No stimulus. No learning geography or systems. Not even looking ahead for hazards.

Might as well turn the monitor off, use time acceleration if SP mode, or take shorter hops.

Your best bet is to look up OLED burn in testing by RTINGS and then remember those tests are designed to make it happen. Yes, burn in is a thing. Do you really leave your TV on CNN for 10 months though?

Millions of Americans will buy their next secondhand OLED with the TRUMP FIST engraved onto the screen :steamhappy:
CARRONT we know you use VR. Do you have trouble with it performing well?

According to the article below, burn is less likely on OLED with normal use and not something to be worried ;)

A bit jealous of Op getting an OLED monitor but how many hours do you plan to fly ETOPS?

You may also want to ask others who fly ETOPS if they experience burn ins with their mons.

I have bought an OLED lately because I got burning eye problems with the normal ones.
I don't have it connected to my MSFS Simulation PC but to my work PC.

So far I do not see burn ins and I have it often on just the desktop.

BUT the one I have would like to do a pixel refresh each 4 hours and that warning that pops up is so anying that I switched it off. I don't see how any normal human has the patient to execute a pixel referesh every 4 hours which takes a few minutes!

Turns out after 16 hours a pciture refresh is forced by the monitor no matter what ... you can't disable it. It pops some pre warning 5 min before and then it shuts the screen down.

Now if you use the monitor for more than 4 hours a day but less than 16 hours then it simple will execute the refresh when you tun it off over night.
So in general it works but you see the problem especially with a long flight.

The picture however is so much better ..unfortunatly Windows doesn't know the pxiel grid of OLED's and the ClearType thing won't work also because they broke it some years ago and don't bother to fix it.
You will need to set it to gray clear type and due to the bug in windows you will need to search for a program that does that.

To the one that said long hauls are pointless..
In the past I did start in VR and had it crusing all day long on auto while I was working on my second PC and had the sim on 2d display checking it from time to time.
When it were close to the destination I get back in for the descend.

Sure you could use time speed up but why?
Why not just fly a day while working and do all sorts of normal day things and have it run.
I enjoyed this times. It can be well integrated in ones day... if you fly for relaxing that is.

The burn in risk for OLED is if you use them. It is inevitable.

I agree. Factor that in, and save up for the next monitor while you enjoy this one. Nothing lasts forever.
