Game not downloading properly.....
What piece of cake is thise Install Manager of this fligt sim!?!?!? First 5 hours it does nothing and over night it managed to download 7 % of the whole game. Now 40 hours have past and it is stil lstuck at 7 %. And all the official support you get is: Check if your internet is stable, restart your pc, and all the usual useless "help" the official microsoft support is able to give you.
I am very dissapointed with this game. Bought the delux version when it came out and it could not manage to download then and even now after so much time has passed they did not manage to fix this game breaking "bug".

I have, of course, checked the internet connection...it works just fine. I have restarted my py...i have verified the files in steam. So anyone has a better idea what might help?

I heard a VPN had helped some.

One piece of advice is to NEVER verify the MSFS files in Steam because that will cause an entire re-install of ALL MSFS files, unlike most other steam games. Another bit of advice is to BE SURE you have a clean and capable PC with PLENTY of available space and a VERY strong internet connection. If you lack any of those things, chances are your experience will not be a good one with MSFS.

You can verify files if you first rename your packages folder and/or move it, if it is in the installation folder.

FS 2020 will not fix itself once the download dies. It gets stuck. You must stop it, go delete all files with today's date (or some of them) and then restart FS. The download will resume and b/c you deleted the file that was having issues, it should work.

I think this is a shared file issue where one thread opens the file and another tries to access it but cannot gain access to it. So it gets stuck and the download stops. I cannot 100% guarantee this is it, but it does have the appearance of that type of issue. It appears to me to be caused by some type of race condition between threads. I don't work for Asobo, I don't know the code, I've never seen one line of it so don't quote me on what I said. It is just my best developer 'guesstimate'. The 'guesstimate' I would make if I were assigned to fix such an issue and had never seen a single line of code and only had the steps to reproduce in front of me. My first plan of attack would be to check for thread race conditions.

All good advice..problem is a lot new users with issues may not know the trick about renaming the packages folder until after the fact. I do remember you mentioning that before though and it slipped my mind to mention it.

I tried a VPN myself and it didn't work. You just have to keep trying with pausing the download, closing the client and re-opening it.

The download server for MSFS2020 is just terrible. There is no way around this, it's not on the users end, but Microsofts. There is no troubleshooting fix, or different internet you can use that will fix the problem. The download server is painfully slow and that is something Microsoft has to fix on their end, but they won't, especially not now that Flight Sim 2024 is going to use Steam instead (thank god).

The servers are region based. So some could be slow. But the other issue is the local client can get stuck and then the download stops and that has nothing to do with the server, but rather the local client is stuck.
