The big problem with MSFS 2020 (Observed)
It seems to be listed in 2 categories
1 Download problems
2 Hardware issues
It would appear you need a system that jives with MSFS 2020 perfectly.
That means the CPU, GPU. RAM, input controllers and type of internet connection have not only to be compatible with MSFS 2020 but each other.
Now the problem is No one knows what that is!. There recommendations don't help much.
This can only be why so many people have problems and the few have none.
In conclusion buying MSFS 2020 is a wish, hope and prayer. In other words a Gamble!

You do realise what a ridiculous comment this is and I quote

"This can only be why so many people have problems and the few have none"

Over 10 million players have used this sim and the VAST majority have little to zero problems.

It's the nature of people to complain if they have problems, but people without problems tend to keep quiet, this is what is giving you a skewed impression.

I have this game installed on both my tower and gaming laptop and guess what??
It runs fine on both, so I don't keep coming on to the discussions and complaining, because I have very little to complain about, as have many others.

I understand that some players do have problems......after all, just 1% of 10 million is 100 thousand....but that means that 9.9 million have very few problems.

You need to be looking at the bigger picture here and realising that a lot of problems are self inflicted....for instance there was a server outage the other day and the amount of people that were complaining about the game was unreal....whereas the majority of us used google and found out that it was nothing to do with the game, it was just a server issue.

Players constantly moan about a certain plane not working properly, or controls not working properly, instead of looking at the cause.

Just my opinion....

I'm simply going by the Steam rating of " Mostly positive" and the complaints that follow.
You would think if millions of people where happy with this game it would be Overwhelmingly positive , With glowing remarks like most good games are.
I have owned fs5, fs98 ,fs2002, fs2004 and FSX,
I have been looking for some reassurance and unhappily I have found very little.

I purchased from Microsoft Store. No problems here, other than XBox won't let me reinstall MSFS to the same 2TB drive I originally had MSFS installed to for several years. So now the game is on my C: drive instead. I fly almost every night, sometimes in VR.

Specs: i7-9700k CPU, Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti GPU, Nvidia drivers from like two years ago, Windows 10 Home. Controller: Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 Joystick. VR headset: HP Reverb G2.

My PC, which I built myself, is directly connected to a high speed internet line. This game gobbles data, so you don't want a slow internet or a data capped plan if you plan to fly with streaming Bing map textures, live weather, live traffic.

I agree with what you said but that sentence above reminds me in every way about public meetings to discuss "problem" issues right across the board. Sometimes the meetings are reported as "the overwhelming majority are unhappy with this or that" when in fact the vast majority of folk are happy with the situation and do not have any axe to grind so therefore do not attend the meeting. There is little or no notice taken of what percentage of people the protesters actually represent. As you said "the VAST majority have little to zero problems".

My specs are Intel Core(TM) I7800 cpu @ 3.50 GHZ
Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 super
Ram 32 GB
Trustmaster T flight Hortas x

Can I fly this thing?

Definitely. Likely with Medium to High settings. The HOTAS X works well. As was mentioned before, make certain you have a lot of hard drive space and strong Internet helps.

I have 4-5mb/s DSL and can still get photogrammetry in a heli although it's slow to load.
R7 2.7ghz
RTX 2080S
48gb ram

Cities are 15-30fps and countryside is 40-60fps (where the card is capped through NVIDIA)
