Worth it or should I wait for 2024 one?
Back in the day I put around 40 or so hours in microsoft flight simulator x, but that's because of scenarios and missions, as I understand, there are no such things in this one? So is this one fun if I'm not looking into studying planes or anything?

I believe it's worth it at it's current price taking into account that the next version is on the horizon. Worth noting that this version will be supported until 2028. There are activities in this version of MSFS but the next version of MSFS will be much better.

I would suggest waiting for MSFS2024 but remember that it will be pricier and probably require better hardware to run

MSFS does have a selection of sightseeing tours, bush flights, landing challenges, tutorials, etc. The 40th Anniversary Edition also includes recreations of some of the missions from FSX and earlier FS editions. And there is/was a pack of classic MSFS 2020 monthly challenges in the game's marketplace. Finally, I think the "Top Gun: Maverick" free DLC is still available for a few more weeks.

I've been flying nightly missions with the free career addon NeoFly 4, which adds purpose and consequences to flying around in the digital world. My current 'airline' is just me and a Cessna 152 (I'm using the JP Logistics modded version) but I'm slowly building up my finances, my certifications, and my experience points. I'm about to rank up for a wider variety of jobs. NeoFly 4 also has a mode where you can fly any aircraft in your sim's hangar. The missions include search and rescue, taking tourists on photo shoots, and other interesting tasks.

FWIW.

Should only try it on Game Pass. Same with MSFS 2024.

To run at best FPS with all eye candy on, yes.

But to the run the game itself will not require much
