I have a few questions
I'd really like to play microsoft flight simulator one day, but I'm hesitating for several reasons. Is there any point in getting this one when there's the 2024 version coming out this year? Do I have to buy special flight simulator controllers or can I play with my xbox controller? how many GO does it weigh?

Subscribe to gamepass. $9.99 or £7.99 per month and the standard version is included.
Doing that you will at least see if you like it or have any problems running it plus you get access to 100 odd other games as well....

If Game Pass is not an option, wait for 2024. It is best to use flight controller but XBox one would do for the start. It weights a lot, and 2024 should be much better in this regard according to the devs.

Yes. MSFS 2020 can be played now. Also, it has already received some of the improvements intended for MSFS 2024.

I've never played with an XBox controller but they are supported.

This depends on several factors including which version you buy (Standard, Deluxe, or Premium Deluxe) and how much content you choose to download (World Updates, City Updates, paid or free airports and aircraft, etc.) but I think you should budget a minimum of 150 GB of hard space and probably double that. My 'Premium Deluxe' with all World Updates and City Updates is 320 GB on the drive I installed it to; however, I also found 310 GB on my C:/ associated with MSFS, so maybe my install is at least 630 GB?

The next MSFS version is supposed to take up much less of a footprint on your hard drive by streaming more content directly as you need it.

Sounds like you have it installed in 2 different places.

there were rumors that MSFS 2024 won't be available until end of 2025.
And then it will probably be too buggy for the next two years.

I agree, 600+ GB sounds like too much unless you have dozens of DLC. Which isn't to say you shouldn't plan for 600+GB, just in case. I think most people run 250-300GB, which is still a lot. You can run less than 250GB, but it takes some work.

Looking again, I see that the MSFS files on my hard drive dedicated to flight simulators hasn't been updated since 2021. I agree that I might have an duplicate install somehow.

Two trains of thought here. On the one hand, FS2024 is reputed to be, well, this year. So maybe wait.

On the other hand, as others here can attest, if the release is anything like FS2020 was, FS024 may be a mess for a year or two after release.

It took them that long to get this version to a state most people don't complain constantly. It was bad enough that many people put it aside for a very long time while they patched it up.

So I guess the answer depends. The obvious answer would normally be just by FS2024. But that may mean dealing with a buggy mess for a year or two. So maybe the right answer is get FS2020 now, and wait like the rest of us and watch FS2024 as we expect it will take a while for that to get to a standard where we switch over.

I for one will be waiting and watching, as I continue to fly FS2020. I think that is going to be the route most Day 1 FS2020 players are going to take. I don't thinkwe're going to see anywhere near the same early sales figures from FS2024 as there where for FS2020. Sort of a "bird in the hand" situation, methinks.
