Why is MSFS 2024 not just paid DLC?
It doesn't even seem like there's many new features. Why not just make it paid DLC rather than a complete separate game? Especially considering there is the in-game shop which they made sure to tell us was all transferrable to the next game.. Why do it like this, is there really just more money for them to siphon from supporters is that why? It makes 0 sense.

I guess moving forward everyone who supported Flight Sim 2020 will be left in the dark and receive minor bug fixes (if we're lucky) and everything else will be pushed to 2024. Having just bought 2020 last month I feel completely scammed and regret my purchase. I think it's the last time I buy a flight sim game knowing there will be a newer barely different one being sold in just a few years. What a great way to alienate your audience.

Exactly. They are being GREEDY and it will not suit every Player. We are expcted to BUY FULL GAME and then simply Download what we want of it. Pretty crap to treat Customers this way seriously. ALL BIG COMPANIES are crap greedy and highly immoral. I have given up liking Companies and their Call Centres are an utter disgusting excuse existing on this Planet. They give Countries a serious bad stigma and it stinks.

They won't be.

Because it's a whole new game.
Like Far Cry 2, 3, 4, 5 etc are new games.
Madden, Call of Duty, any franchise, you name it... they don't come as new dlc.

It is likely about the money. They are rebuilding the client software. It turns out that programmers are expensive because they keep insisting on enough money for feeding, housing and clothing their families. If those workers at Asobo would be less greedy and just let their children starve a little bit then Macman could get his free copy of V2024. Maybe they could live in vans in the company parking lot to save money and just eat beans.

We need to pay for a new game because that is how it works if you want people to do things for you.

At this point no one really knows exactly what will be different in V2024. It sound like they are going to redo the client end software. That could be a significant change that will make it like a new game.

I wonder how many people complained when Microsoft released Flight Simulator: X just three years after they had released Flight Simulator 2004. It must have been a big consumer uproar but probably not as big as the outrage that must have happened when Microsoft released Flight Simulator 2004 only a couple of years after Flight Simulator 2002.

Interestingly enough. There wasn't any uproar. You know why? Because people understood that sequels are standalone releases that require their own development cycle. It shouldn't be a difficult thing to grasp but apparently it is for some.

Wanting FS2024 to be released as some kind of DLC is silly. Wanting it to be a free release is just insane and makes absolutely no logical sense.

Devil's advocate here...

Previous versions of the game didn't generate passive income like the marketplace has.

Even when you consider all the first and third party content on the marketplace, it is hard to believe that there is enough revenue consistently generated to cover the production of a full Microsoft Flight Simulator title.

Paying for Content we do not even DOWNLOAD = SILLY
Thinking otherwise = SILLY

Previous versions of the game didn't have the passive expense of game servers like MSFS has.

Let us assume we PAID for the TOP GUN & DUNE DLC. How often if ever do you play these?
I played TOP only partly once.I never bothered with DUNE. It would be SILLY to pay for such DLC I do not play. Same for MSFS 2024. Being SILLY = SILLY

If you think it is silly, then you can go on playing the 2020 version. No one is forcing you to do anything.

When Companies become so corrupt they are blind to morals, they are waiting for a kick back, just like FACEBOOK has coming in 2027 with a Law Suit. To be SILLY is ignorance. Hey, to stop having your Cars stolen... just buy another and another. Carry on.

Except for the part where there's barely any new features in the new game.. Hence why it easily could have been paid DLC. The client end software update that some others have mentioned but I have not seen should come to those that supported the project. Now we've got two separate games with the same store, it's just weird.. But it makes sense with Game Pass why they would want to release a new game every year just so they can milk those who buy the game outright. It's just sad to see and I hoped it would be different. Either way they are not getting my money for a long time now that I see this is the way they're heading.

Exactly. And it's why I bought MSFS 2020 just a month ago.. I thought it was their plan to support the game for 10 years through micro-transactions and I was all for it. But no, just a few weeks later they say it's being replaced with a new game and we're no longer receiving updates. I'm not buying another flight sim game after this. Complete scam.

They would support the franchise for 10 years.
