Controls for camera views
Just wondering what the button it is on the keyboard to cycle the cabin window views to look at the engine/wing. I’ve looked at the controls option in the game and I can’t find anything that cycles the views. At the moment I have to go into the camera menu from the options at the top and select it that way. Is there a button I have to press to get these views?

Thanks

If you go to the control options, set the filter to ALL and look for "Next Instrument view" and "Previous Instrument view", these will cycle through various instrument cameras within the cockpit. Likewise, look up next and previous fixed camera, this cycles more cinematic camera views. Also look up toggle instrument view and toggle fixed camera for quick shortcuts to them.

Similarly to the toggles, don't forget you can set custom camera positions by moving the view around and saving them then loading them with various shortcuts. For these, look up custom camera in the binding menu.

I’ve just looked at my control options and it says left shift + A and A for the instrument views and fixed cameras. I went into the plane pressed both left shift + A and A but it didn’t do anything, it didn’t move any cameras!

I could try to set custom views, although I’m not too sure how to do that. Is there any useful videos that explains how to do it.

I use a Steam controller for this so I'll try and explain how this works for me.

My "Start" and "Select" buttons are mapped to Camera Mode Switches for "Toggle Drone" and "Cockpit/External View mode". I have my thumbstick left and right mapped to previous and next camera. The up and down of the thumbstick are mapped to next and previous pilot postion.

In order for the camera to cycle, you need to be in specific views. I access these with the up and down thumbstick in the cockpit and when I am in drone view (Start button), I hit my "Select" button which switches from drone to the showcase fixed cameras.

I hope that makes sense but ultimately in order for the cycle binds to function you need to be in Instrument view or Fixed Camera view.

Isn’t there just something on the keyboard you can press in the cockpit to get to a wing view/cabin view. I’ve seen lots of videos on YouTube with people flying planes on MSFS and they just press some sort of key and it takes them to the cabin. Is this already set up, or do I have to make a bind for that?

setting up your own camera positions and binding them to logical keys is way better imho, but the sim seems to have issues keeping these binds, and game updates for some reason can also destroy them, though i have now found out how to back them up, but trust me using cameras you want when you want is far better especially in bigger aircraft..defaults are rubbish imho because they don't relate to what you interpret as the more logical to your own logical interpretation, they are generic after all.

I don’t to make new ones - I will just stick with the current/basic ones the sim has created. All I want to know is the keys that shortcuts me to the view of the window/wing etc.

These are what you are after to some extent but you will likely find the views you want cannot be accessed as they tend to be the last fixed camera beyond the ten keys.

Dunno if you can recall the fixed view then use the save custom view to workaround it.

Edit: Or, you could potentially make a modified cameras.cfg that puts the views you want in the slots with the keybinds.

I have custom cockpit views bound to keys 1-0 on my keyboard, and they stick (not overwritten) with every update.

I don’t quite think you’re getting what I’m saying. On this video below if you skip to 41:30 and 42:40 this is what I mean. I want to know the controls for how to do that…

I’m not on PC I’m on Xbox. So I can’t do it this way. Or is there an alternative??

Found out how to do it, although I can only set one at a time. It resets it every time I want to make a separate one for some reason. Not sure if I’m doing it wrong.

I don't own a XBox - don't know how it's different to PC.

Nice, and believe you don't have 10 additional keys to be mapped on a controller. Can you connect a keyboard to your console?

Yes, you can connect USB keyboards to consoles. Not sure if MSFS will recognise it for binding purposes though. Even the 360 recognised and utilised a USB keyboard in the OS but game developers didn't tend to program things in such a way to make use of them.

For some reason I can only create one on the controller. I do have a keyboard and mouse but not tried that out yet.
