Google maps option
The first time I ran it, it asked if I wanted to enable google maps. I chose no to free up some data, but now I want to try it and can't find the option in the game. Anybody know where to look?

Microsoft uses their proprietary Bing Maps.

It seems you opted to not stream the satellite imagery. Try this:
- At main screen, go to the Options tab.
- Select the General Options panel.
- Select Data from the menu at left.
- Ensure 'Bing Data World Graphics' is On.

There is an 3rd party app called MSFS2020 Map Enhancement. that uses google maps. Though last time i used it was over a year ago, so not sure if it's still an option.

It is, I'm always using it. It's developer is still active, the app even got an update just a few days ago.

Small caveat: While I never noticed anything like it on any Bing Maps, some places on google maps are pixelated, where the property owners requested that. Most notably are military installations and such, where the areas are quite big. That can look really weird when you fly over it in MSFS.
